Ajc: After Osi, Falcons Are $2.9Mm Under The Cap

We have 60 players under contract. PS players don't count because they make less than players on the roster so therefore under the top 51 contracts they don't count.

If you look at draft pick salaries from last year the #30 pick made (1.2mil), #60 (600k) and #92 (520k) then takeaway 480k from each because the bottom players that currently count towards the cap make that. That's just under a million, our picks from round 4 and on basically make 480k and lower so they make no real difference. Overall draft picks should cost us around a million.

I believe there are

21 D players signed (counting Banks)

28 O players signed

3 ST players signed

then there are 5 UFA still floating and 8 PS players signed

my 52 plus the 8 PS does equal 60 under contract

1M for 11 players is about 91K per player

Your not getting it. These calculations are only for the top 51 contracts:

Based on last year's salaries for draft picks.

51st (Harland Gunn) : 480k replaced by #127 pick (486k) = 6k

50th (Tim Toone) : 480k replaced by #92 pick (520k) = 40k

49th (Phillip Manly) : 480k replaced by #60 pick (600k) = 120k

48th (Robert James) : 480k replaced by #30 pick (1.2mil) = 620k

etc

just those equals approx 786k

Good list but he left off Mike Peterson. I am also pretty sure that Robert Mcclain is an Exclusive-Rights Free Agent. I am not if DOL would he counting Mcclain already. Who would know, considering he has Restricted Free Agent Michael Palmer in the STILL AVAILABLE category.

Oh boy. I can't wait for the next wave of "Release player X for cap space!" threads.

All it'll take is a Ryan extension to get done and theres 6-7 mill of cap freed up right there hahahahaha we don't have to release anyone I wonder if these worry wort cap space posters realise that.

They don't that money is already sat to the side. Its around $4-5M

That depends, if the number reported is before or after money set aside for the draft picks. It would have to be stated in the quote that the 2.9mil is after the draft allotment. They said on the Fan last week that the Falcons were at 2.9mil under including the draft money. Also that the Falcons would need around 2.5mil of that to sign the draft picks. Then they also said with the new CBA a FA vet taking less money than they were set to make the year before could be brought in at 1mil and only count as .5mil against the cap. This is to help keep older FA in the game a little longer.

That said I sure hope Abe is the Vet they use this and some other options to bring back.
