Peyton
.......so let me do my part. Before I lay it down, let me say that I am assuming the Falcons are going to sign a veteran CB in free agency. I just think it is an absolute certainty. I don't know who, or when, but I just feel like it is most definitely going to happen. Now on with the mock.#30 Margus Hunt - DE - SMU - I know there are people who think he is going to bust, but in my opinion, athletic freaks like him only bust for one of three reasons - 1. They are Dumb; 2. They have poor work ethic; 3. They are dumb and they have poor work ethic.I don't think Hunt falls into any of these categories. As a Junior athlete, he was a world class performer in 3 different track and field events. The guy never stepped on a football field until 2009 and managed to have a very productive college football career. In my opinion, the guy is way closer to a sure thing than a sure bust. i think the guy just needs to be coached up and he's going to be a load to handle in the NFL. I think the guy is a top 5 talent, and the only reason the Falcons have a chance to draft him at 30 is because he is 25 already.#60 Sylvester Williams- DT - UNC - There are a number of similiar DTs in this draft that are late 1st round and early 2nd round type talents, and one of them is going to fall to Atlanta at 60. My money is on Sylvester because he comes from the ACC and he's already 24 years old.#92 Zaviar Gooden- OLB- Missouri - There are lots of different opinions on where Gooden will be drafted because of his stellar combine performance, but for every person who thinks he is an early third pick, there is another guy who thinks he is a late 4th pick. So I like him in the late 3rd, and I think Nolan will know how to use his athleticism.#127 Dion Simms- TE- Michigan State - This guy is known as a blocking TE who is not a seam threat, but the guy has lost a ton of weight this offseason and showed nice spead at the combine. I think he cam be a little more dangerous in the passing game than advertised and he is a top run blocking TE in the draft.#133 Tharold Simon - CB - LSU- I think the world has fallen asleep on this guy a little bit. Maybe overshadowed by his own teammate who wasn't even on the team this year. I think Simon is a big athletic corner who has been overlooked. I think he can be a player.#163 Kenjon Barner - RB - ORE - Barner's an enigma because the guy had amazing production but nobody seems to think he is any good. Admittedly, the guy isn't a "tough" runner, and his straight line speed is not Jerious Norwood stuff. But I like his style, he's slippery, and i think he'd be a great change of pace option for the Falcons.#198 Cooper Taylor - SS - Richmond - Cooper is a big and tall SS who can really run. The question with him is his toughness. Paul Johnson didn't like him, didn't even get him out there on the field much, that's why he has been hidden away at U of R. Had a great showing at the Shrine game, definitely worth a look at the end of the 6th round.#236 Quanterrus Smith - DE - WKU - Where Quanterrus Smith will fall is anybody's guess. He is still a 5th rounder on some mocks and he has fallen completely off the grid due to his ACL tear. My guess is somebody takes a 7th round flyer on him, might as well be us. He is tall and athletic but a little raw. Blistered Alabama for 3 sacks and led the nation in sacks when he tore his ACL. Draft him and put him on IR for 2013 - could become a genius pick in 2014.#243 Braden Hansen - OG - BYU - Productive and experienced if not terribly athletic. Probably another Mike Johnson. I know what you are thinking "why would we want another Mike Johnson?". I'm sorry, the next Larry Little isn't available at the end of round 7, and wouldn't you have liked Mike Johnson better if we drafted him at the end of round 7 instead of round 3?#244 Travis Long - OLB - WSU - Honestly I feel that Travis Long's film shows a 3rd round pick. But sometimes, when you are on a terrible team, nobody looks at your film. He also has a mysterious knee injury which I suspect is an ACL tear. See plan for Quanterrus Smith, could be payoff big time in 2014.#249 Vernon Keary - CB - Lane College - Every good draft class needs a small college cinderella story, and this is ours. Keary is a tall corner who can move and cover, but the dude is skinny as a rail. Great candidate for the practice squad to get a year in the system and bulk up. Adam25
Sylvester Williams will be long gone before our second pick, might be long gone before our first pick. Hunt is a project player and at 26 that's working against him. I would only take a run at him if he fell to our second pick. Gooden, Sims and Barner are solid in my books. I mean if our draft turned out like this I wouldn't be mad but it's just a tad unrealistic, especially the first two rounds.

I think there is a good chance that he is there at 60.I don't know even know if he is a good pick. He is a wildly inconsistent player who disappears for long stretches of game. But the guy can look dominant too, and the Falcons need a DT.And I just disagree with you on Hunt. I think he is going to be a player very quickly. Psychic Gibbon
Hunt will bust because he has no instincts and looks completely lost against better competition. Avoid him like the plague.

He has no counter move, he does have a high motor and would be a stretch at 30, Why wouldn't you get a more polished guy like Datone Jones or Alex Okafor ? Williams is a good player, but he has been sliding way up draft boards and won't be their when we pick in the second.
Psychic Gibbon
I thought he held his own against Joeckel, the best LT Hunt, or any DE in college, played against this year.He didn't. Overall he's very unimpressive on the field but blows everyone away in the gym. I prefer football players, not workout warriors.

MSalmon
I'd be all excited if this happens. Williams is interesting in the 2nd because every year some first round DT drops. Hankins might be a legit sub (we talked to him)But I dig the positioning. Itll be interesting to see if the falcons take a late round flier on either a wr or TE or go for one early. Could go either way.I like Hunt and think with a good DC (which we have) he can be a studBarner was a returner early on, so he helps out STs
Peyton
It really doesn't matter if Williams is available at 60. It could be Hankins or Kawaan Short there instead. Either way, the Falcons would get a DT that can be productive in this defense.I'm not married to Sylvester Williams in this mock. There are a lot of similar talents available around then. But Cooper Taylor....now that guy is not replaceable. Ok...joke.

Psychic Gibbon
Ok, I disagree.I watched some videos about him after his Bowl game and all I recall from his A&M tape was Joeckel chop blocking Hunt repeatedly and Hunt being unable to recover from it. Peyton
I watched some videos about him after his Bowl game and all I recall from his A&M tape was Joeckel chop blocking Hunt repeatedly and Hunt being unable to recover from it.I watched the whole game, and Joeckel definitely won most of the plays. But Joeckel has been playing football for his whole life and is likely the very first pick in the NFL draft.Hunt blew up the backfield on him on a number of occasions, and I doubt that happened to Joeckel too many times this year. The main reason I like Hunt is his work ethic. To me, there is no way a guy with his work ethic, who is the biggest, strongest, fastest DE in the draft, can possibly fail in the long run. Can't see it at all. Peyton
Another thing about the A & M game. If you watch the tape, you notice that Texas A&M runs the ball away from Hunt 90% of the time in the game, and when they run it Hunt's way, they really don't get anything away. Why is the team with the best offensive lineman in football running away from his side 90% of the time?Anyway, like I said, I thought Hunt held his own. Peyton
Yeah I knew there'd be a lot of hate on the Hunt pick lol. There are some supporters on this board though...just seems to be very few of them at this hour lol.

Birdy™
+1 for acknowledging a pick after round 2 and being Ok with 91% of my mock .The Only reason I don't like Margus is because he's 26 years old... If he was 22 or 23 I'd be fine with him, well actually I'd love to have him if he was younger. IMO, he'll be around 30 when and if he enters his prime. But great mock otherwise. SpoonSmacked
I don't like Hunt in the 1st but the way you mocked the rest of the draft, I can't help but like it. I agree with you about Sly Williams. There's way too many 1st/2nd round interior Dlineman this year and it's very likely one of them falls to our 2nd round pick. I think it'll either be Short or Williams. Good mock.
Falcanuck
If you switch out Hunt with another DE like Okafor, Carradine, Werner or Moore (surprise drops) I'd like it a lot more. Other than that it looks a lot like my mock, so I like it. I just think Hunt will drop far enough in the 2nd for us to trade up and get him (if we really want him). I don't think he's a first round talent.I would rather draft a CB in the third, too, and take a OLB like Porter in the 4th. We don't need TE depth this year, and when we do need a TE we need a starter.

I just can't get with Hunt in the first. We are clearly trying to win now, therefore it makes no sense to draft a project in the first.
