OC
So,Abe was probably the best Falcon here during his tenure. Last year he comprised a great percentage of our pass rush and was probably the biggest threat on our D-Line. That said, given TD's stated desire to get younger as a team, so much opportunity to do so on defense, the public praise of the rookies from this year, and the depth of this year's draft class, what is the likelihood that we want to sign Abe back? Some say we need him, while others say he was "in decline" (and that was the same argument levied against Asante). I don't know that I have an opinion either way right now. I'm just legitimately asking what is the likelihood that he is in our plan for next year? And if he comes back, where does he fit in? Is he a situational guy? Is he an every down guy? These are just what was going through my head while I'm considering Abe's hereto unemployed state.
SwampyMux12
When he was first released, my first thought was that he would for sure be brought back on the cheap. Now that it has worn on and he's not back, I really don't think he's going to be, I would say very, very slight chance. He's not an every down DE anymore, just not very stout against the run, more of a situational pass rusher 3 down, end of games kind of guy - which he can still do quite well in limited snaps. At first I really, really wanted him back, but now that we have Osi, I'm okay with letting the young guys split the opposite DE.Just my 2 cents. At this point, I'm starting to embrace the fact that with this FO for the most part the only thing you know is that you don't know.

At least not just yet. Since no team grabbed him maybe he will humble himself, take less, and join the Falcons for the ring.

Not-a-Saint
Most overrated player on this board. He would be signed by now if he was as good as some of y'all talk him up to be. You all always complain about young players not getting a chance! Well here is the time for Mass or a rookie to step up and you still want the old man back! Lol I'm for Abe coming back if he's not starting and only in on passing situational downs.
Tribal Chief
I do not understand why teams release players from contracts that they create only to bring them back at a lower rate. If I'm the player, the Only way I go back is if no one, I mean no one else wants my services. It's a screwed business though. Heck when a player wants to be traded or released, the team won't budge but are quick to cut them when they feel it's time

They should look at MLB players union for how it's done.

k-train
now go back and find all the examples of players that wanted a release or trade and the team denied them the opportunityOh, boo hoo. They're still making a sh!t ton of $$$$$. I don't feel sorry for millionaires. If these guys were smart, they'd have their contracts drawn up, so the would have the ability to void part of the agreement... like our own S. Jackson just did to the Rams. Anyone who does have sympathy for a millionaire cares to much about the player. The players aren't the ones involved in the discussions. It's up to their agents to be the brain of the operation. Player just gives his john Hancock.

If you hire an agent who puts you in a crappy situation & can't get you out of it, that's your own fault.

Atlfanstckndenver
it does go both ways, but of course the teams are going to have the majority of the leverage. Edited March 29, 2013 by Atlfanstckndenver
Peyton
It's not about getting younger this year. It's about winning a SB. We can get younger next year.

blizzard_falcon
It's not about getting younger this year. It's about winning a SB. We can get younger next year.Agreed. If out sole motive was to "get younger," we wouldn't have re-signed Gonzalez or signed Jackson. Now that the market has set the price for DEs, I think it's 50/50 that Abraham comes back for one more shot.
bossFALCON™
I believe Abe is in decline but even with that said he's still a better pass rusher than biermann and could be pretty effective in a rotation
falcon68
i think he'll be back. i bet when we cut him, TD told him what he could afford to pay him if he didn't get picked up by anyone else. i think it was a respect thing to give abe FA to visit some teams and have a chance to get a nice deal, but at the same time knowing he had a home here still but with financial limitations. Interceptor430
If he will play for Vet minimum, then bring him back for 1 more year... and let Osi announce that he'll re-do his Contract to make room for Abe.

Abe is easily still worth $2-3 mil/year, especially with an effective pass rusher opposite him and the opportunity to play less.
jimifalcon
The first thing you must consider is,football is a business,an entertainment business, not a sport anymore.Yes it is "played" by athletes, but the end result is to make money.Atlanta is now on the national stage.Even so,I would like to see Abe back, mainly for his leadership in the locker room........ok,and because I am a homer and I like Abe.
