Does Td Ever Pick First Round Cbs?

Recommended Posts

I could be mistaken, but I can't recall TD ever taking a CB in the first round...dating back to his NE days. I think I looked this up a couple of years ago and only saw the safety Merriweather taken as a first round DB under TD's watch.

Point being, seems like TD, as a guy who made his mark scouting DBs, has a penchant for / philosophy of drafting DBs in the middle rounds and developing them. Not for taking first rd DBs and plugging them into a starting role.

That's why I'm not buying all of the talk of the falcons taking a CB at 30 to fill this yrs starting position.

We need a starter or #3 if McClain is ready to step in to the base D

If we draft him I think it's got to be in the 1st or 2nd round (assuming we're taking him to be the #2)

Regardless of if we take a CB early or add a FA, I think we should also take one in the 4th round for depth and to develop. Samuel is 32 and McClain is on a 1 year deal

FA may be the best route to go, for example Mike Jenkins would be available for very cheap probably 3M 1 year and could start, and we wouldn't have to draft a CB early

Then we can prioritize the DL, which is the biggest need on the team, and more important than CB anyway. If you don't have the DL it doesn't matter who you have at corner

Right now we probably don't have the cap room for any FA moves but Ryan needs a new deal and there's no reason at all why we can't give him a big payday and structure a low 2013 and possibly 2014 cap hit, freeing up space for now

Doing that should easily clear enough 2013 room to resign Abe and bring in another starter like Mike Jenkins or Karlos Dansby

If we extended Ryan, resigned Abe and signed Jenkins we could go

1. DE/DT

2. DT/DE

3. OLB and move Spoon to MLB

4. CB

4. TE

Then add depth at WR, maybe a speed RB, and other depth like LB. We definately need to add a kick and punt return weapon, maybe one of the corners or WRs we draft can handle that

I herd TD was very fond of Dunta when he was coming out and wanted NE to draft him.

With that said he will take a CB with our first pick this year unless we trade up for Jarvis Jones(gut feeling) or Alex ogletree

Dunta's rookie year production looked like he was going to be a HOFer, I don't know what happened to him after that he seems to have lost all ball skills

2004

16 games

87 tackles (73 solo), 3 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 6 interceptions, 19 passes defensed

Perhaps the saddest thing about Grimes getting injured after his big payday is that Robinson had to play coverage. With Samuel and Grimes on the outside I was expecting Robinson to have a monster year as a nickel blitzer against both the pass and the run

He could have laid some monster hits on QBs and RBs in the backfield

He certainly would have gotten his chance with Abe being the only player to sniff the QB

wouldn't sag Hall of Gamer but he had a solid rookie year. Nd was solid in coverage until he got hurt and lost his speed. When we signed him I think TD believe he was still the same player when he scouted him. He was still solid, not a int machine but he did his job for playin I na scheme that didn suit him (bvg), played better under Nolan tho.

eh I see us goin after Dansby and that's it then focusing on CB DE LB DT in the draft in that exact order too then we will prob look st RB/TE while also drafting another Kate round CB and DE plus a WR and maybe an OG.

possibly? i haven herd or read about any of his demands so who knows other than possible GMs that have talked to him

I mean looking at his previous contract, Miami was paying him around $8 mill a year. I know he wont get that much with a new team. My question is can we afford to even pay him half of that and sign our backups?

its actually very possible we can pay him something similar and have his cap hit only be 1-2mil see jackson even Gonzo or Moores contracts, just cuz a guy is making 8-9 even 10mil their first yr doesnt mean that is what is coming of the cap.
