The More I Think About These Cuts The More Dissapointed I Am

Recommended Posts

My point is when you cut the heart of something it dies, and thats how i feel about these players that were cut. It took years the get players to buy in and want to be here through good times and bad. Why waste time and try to get rented players to come in and jet the first time they get booed. I'm talking foundation and thats what Abraham, Turner and yes D Rob brought here. REspect through winning and losing they left and impression that you could hold your head up high and be proud to be a fan of this team. It wasnt about and still isnt about them wanting more money or complaining about what there checks were looking like at the end of the day. They represented the logo proudly and made us proud to represent it. I am and will always be a Falcons fan partly because of the character the three players showed on and off the field, but Mostly because of the Professionalism of our coaching and ownership to bring quality players like a Mike Turner, John Abraham, and Dunta Roberson. To this, I solute this three guys and wish them well and in my own little way really hope the find their way back into an Atlanta Falcons uniform on Gamedays. Once a Falcon always a Falcon!

It hard for me to understand why they released Turner, Abraham, Robinson (I know $$$ here)

but did not release McClure, Peterson, (Age here)

and maybe Jerry, Sidbury (performance here)

ADDED

thanks guys ---I had a major brain fart earlier this morning

McClure, Peterson and Sidbury all become FAs--- they do not have to be released

just not re-signed --maybe

those guys will be released but maybe not until after the draft. McClure/Petersen could be released earlier as we don't need them at all anymore - Jerry/Sidbury - it will depend on what happens in draft - Jerry may be kept regardless.

Sidbury is a free agent, right?

I've got no problem with the business end of the game.

Turner and Dunta had to go, that's been obvious.

Cutting the best defensive player on the football team though, regardless of salary, is dumb.

And his salary wasn't remotely out of hand.

on its face, it does seem dumb, Peyton (cutting Abe). However, Falcons have a plan and they know they were bad with Abe in pass rush. There are a lot of things to play out over the next 60 days (actually less). Let it play out before you play "jump to conclusions".

Last time the Falcons threw Abe out into free agency, he came back at $4million/yr less. Maybe that happens again - i doubt it, but its obvious Abe would prefer to stay w/ Falcons.

I gotta believe that Falcons think either Mass or Matthews can be a player and pass rusher - i'm sure they will get one in free agency as well. A switch to the 3-4 could also be in the offing.

Best player on defense? No. He's still a solid player who can be productive rushing the passer, but we need the cap. Your right he wasn't getting crazy money, but it was more then we wanted to pay. I'm sure there will be more gone. After we resign our own and see how free angency is going I could see us bring him back cheaper. I don't think it happens, but a possibility. If he does come back he plays less and is just in there on certain downs. Time to find the future pass rushers, instead of stop gaps. If there already on the team then it makes even more sense.

McClure and Peterson are UFAs. We don't have to release them.

And yes Peyton I agree with you, cutting Abe at this point was ugh dumb as hail. For what? To sign an aging Freeney or Osi for more money? To sign SJax or Bush who can't play defense worth a dam? To draft an NCAA rookie DE at #30 and hope Hamilton can develop him? Dumb, dumb, dumb.

The only player cut that somewhat bothers me is Abraham. Abe might get injured, or Abe might have to play a limited amount of snaps, but Abe still produced at his position. Abe was the tough decision, because of his age and cap hit.

Turner and Robinson on the other hand were not playing up to their contracts. I'm a fan of Turner, but Turner just doesn't seem to fit the offense anymore. The falcons gave Turner a great opportunity and contract when he was signed in 08, so it's not like he's leaving empty handed.

Robinson needed to be better in coverage. Robinson's old school hitting style (although I loved it) unfortunately cost the team penalties, plus his 9 million dollar cap hit is reason enough to cut him.

To me the heart of the team is Roddy. The 3 that were cut, are sacrifices to maintain the level of play and to maybe get beyond. Every team has to do it at some time or another.

The only players on this team for the next 8 years are Matt Ryan and Julio Jones, that's all, the real world sucks

No, I'm completely serious. We also need to get the old coordinators back and every other player and coach who left that triggered doomsday predictions on this board.

that's completely silly to have that thought but your feelings are your feelings. On a side note, if we do go 2-14,we can snatched Clowney with ease
