since68andcounting
and I have this very sick feeling in my stomach like we f'd up. Bad.Yesterday when it happened it didn't bother me that much. I spouted out the same line like "cap reasons" and "scheme change". But today I realize how truly gifted the man we've had wearing #55 for the last half dozen or so years is. And how fortunate we've been to have him. He will NOT be easily replaced, if he's even replaceable at all.

Tribal Chief
Seriously. It's a **** game.that a good portion of the people on this board have never even attempted to play yet they get so emotional about it. KOG is probably the only person who's emotions towards what happens I can truly respect becsuse he has been there.
since68andcounting
Seriously. It's a **** game.Hey, I'm just calling it like it is. You do not find 260 lb guys that are that stout against the run and with the INSANE closing speed that this guy has in the 4th-6th rounds. You very rarely even find them in the bottom of the 1st round. He will not be easily replaced. I love Nolan, but he better have something really special up his sleeve if he thinks he's gonna "scheme" the same sacks Abe has consistently produced with the talent we currently have on the roster. I'll wait and see. But my gut tells me this was not a smart move. Not YET, anyway.
Guest Gritz
Personally this one stings as much as when Norwood was allowed to leave.....(and I know Abe has contributed more than Jerious did, it's just that Jerious was my favorite Falcon...).Abraham played solidly his entire time as a Falcon. It especially hurts right now because we just got demonstrably and clearly weaker in an area where we were weak already.TD better have a good plan because as it stands now this doesn't look too bright. We already had one of the lowest sack totals in the league with 29. Abe was ranked the SIXTH highest in the NFL in 2012 in terms of pressures. In limited snaps he had 10 of our 29 sacks. That's over a third. Why doesn't some one tell me exactly WHERE that production will now be coming from based on our current roster and projected draft picks? Anyone???And btw...I played 8 years. UK13
Oh Gawd ! What are we going to do , we had such a dominate Pass rush last year how dare we try something new. The worlds not ending and Abe's going to be alright with or without the Atlanta Falcons and vise versa ....I mean is our pass rush going to be any worse

Not just mass but there will be others. I just don't see us bringing in a crap ton of FA.sadly I see Grimes coming back.Moore 5 a yearBaker sadly 4.Rookies 3We will not get a big name. It's going to stay mid FA guys. And probably be only two. I also don't see a point to excel in making us on the edge of cap space again. I rather allow money to goat over next year, allure this money we had to give in guarantee to abe/turner/dunta be hinge next year. Let our young see who is good.......and then next year go all out and get the true needs for holes.

J-Wall
I'm not worried either. Drob will not be missed didn't produce. Turner will be missed he did great things here but won't he missed on the field right now. Abe will be kissed and I'd be willing to bet he does come back at a 1yr $3mil he is definitely a part time player bow and only has about 2 years of decent production left. We will be better for this I'm telling ya.
UK13
Anybody think the DL coach could be one of the reasons we don't have much of a pass rush.
Guest Gritz
Anybody think the DL coach could be one of the reasons we don't have much of a pass rush.I think some serious consideration has to be given to the idea that Hamilton isn't cutting it as D-line coach. CraigSmackDaddy
Crumpler, Coleman, Milloy, Dunn .......Same thing I said yesterday with different players. When I was bitching about Brooking getting releases all I heard was "I'm a fan of the Falcons and not a particular player". This came from some of the very same people who are having such a hard time with Abe getting cut. I'll miss Abe as much as any of you but this is a business and I believe the FO has a reason and we'll all just have to sit back and wait for what that is. Tribal Chief
Anybody think the DL coach could be one of the reasons we don't have much of a pass rush.I think people were saying his techniques were being laughed at and talked about during the Pro Bowl so it could be a factor. Abe was already established before he arrived yet every other person we have had has failed. Coaching plays a huge part in how all these guys play on the entire defense. I wanna know who the **** is working ith them on their tackling
Dirtybird56
Yeah we just lost our only pass rush. But let's not act like Abe's production from 2012 is not replaceable..his career as a falcon was amazing, but looking at what he did in 2012 alone and the teams he got his sacks against, and the fact he was largely limited in his snaps, makes sense to go ahead and move on. Glad TD doesn't seem to be afraid to cut because of loyalty
blkbigdog35
It's a process fellas and I'm sure these guys have a surprise for us that's going to benefit this team. I liked 55 also but he's 34 and not worth the salary he was scheduled to get. We will be fine just wait and see!
falcon90
Remember a key thing that Nolan said when he first came here. He rather have sacks dispersed among different players, than just one dominant dude who gets 10+ sacks every year. I very seriously doubt Nolan would okay this if he didn't have a plan and didn't have a way to compensate for those sacks that abe has. Maybe Abe comes back as well so you never know. Psychic Gibbon
This is reminding me of the chicken littles who said we were doomed after shaking up the coaching staff last year.

I wanna know who the **** is working ith them on their tacklingI like Hamilton and think he is a good coach. I think that its just time to move on from him. That video clip of him at the probowl was embarrassing for Falcon fans. I think it was Justin Smith and Tuck and a few other guys being told they were doing it all wrong. The end was funny. They walk up to Abe who was off in the distance and signal to him like " wtf is that guy smoking!?! ". Abe just facepalmed and shook his head laughing to himself. Whether its a good one that improves the team is yet to be seen.I just hope we are thinking more about winning it all this year than long term down the road. I can watch the team rebuild for another 40 yrs as long as we have our Lombardi....
Creative
You guys sound really stupid pretending his age meant something, or he has somehow fallen off a ton. He was still 6th on PFF's pass rush efficiency and our ONLY threat. At all. Ask Saints or Panther fans. I feel the same way OP. Hate this.
