Could Abe's Release Be The Result Of His Displeasure With Smith's Decision?

I always thought, from Abe's facial expressions in the last week of the season and during the playoffs, that he was pissed. Could this be the result of him showing discontent about Smith's decision to play him in the meaningless weak 17 game? Could he have felt disrespected and voiced his displeasure?

How would he feel disrespected by playing? Abe didn't have to play if he didn't want to. All it takes is "Hey coach, I'm old and fragile. Let me rest in this meaningless game so I can be healthier in the playoffs."

I have a new idea. All teams who have made the playoffs by week 17 don't have to play that game. That way no one risks injury and everyone can keep the baby bottles in their mouth.

I think Abe's release is def a sign that we are indeed moving to a 3-4 as rumors suggested.

It always stuck in the backl of my head when Abe said he would like to play for ATL again in 2013 if they ask him back. He knew something then IMO.

It obviously is not a cap thing since he had a very small cap hit in comparison to his production. I cannot see them replacing him with Freeney or Osi, neither are an upgrade.

Well if you truly value a player, you'll do your best to protect them as a coach. And given Abe's history the risk/reward of playing him didn't suggest Smith valued him too much.

Releasing John Abraham when he Ws by far our most productive pass rusher and would still be our best rusher is very telling.

We will without a doubt be heavily targeting one of the top young pass rushers in FA this year, it is the only possible logic for a SB contending team.

I now more than ever expect Cliff Avril, who would be a great piece for Nolan at 4-3 DE or 3-4 OLB, to be a Falcon. Other names to watch are Anthony Spencer and Paul Kruger who both provide the flexibility for both schemes. Also wouldn't be surprised if we brought back Abe at a reduced rate if his market isn't brimming hot.
