Wokezone
Slow 40's for the most part and only a few put up good numbers on the weight bench. Theres a few De's we could draft and put at 3-4 OLBs if we are ever going to move to 3-4 base this is the year to do it. not impressed with this years 4-3 OLBs. WOR
I think they mentioned that last year the LB 40 average time was 4.77. So actually they might be better this year.
Falcanuck
This is why I hate the combine.
Wokezone
I mean i understand that its not all about the tangibles Falanuck, but those guys will have a hard time covering Te's, and Rb's in the NFL at those speeds, with todays rules. A 300lb OL outran Manti Teo.... who has been hyped up as a first round talent. and the bench presses are not the numbers i see to be taken anywhere near the first. outside of a few.Strength and speed in question is not a good thing Edited February 25, 2013 by T-Falcon
irishdart
But Manti had a great day overall. He looked really good in all the drills. That's the thing with the combine. How seriously do you take the 40 times? Anquin Boldin anyone?
hjerry
10yd split is probably more important than their 40s, since they need to be shifty.
Falkonator
40 Is only really.important for DBs, and slot of LBs play faster than their initial 40 times. Fitz although a WR ran a 4.6. Btw.
Hashbrown3
Combine has nothing to do with how a man can play the game. I think it is a nice way to distinguish between players you have ranked equally on film. Some folks just know how to play the game, anticipate, make plays, or be one step ahead of others getting to the ball...

1989Fan
forty time is such BS for most players.Form alone can knock 3 tenths off of forty time....form that is only useful for running a forty, and will never be used in the NFL.I mean fast is fast, but there is no reason to assume if a guys runs a 4.7 in the forty there is no way he can keep up with a guy on the field who ran a 4.5 forty. It just proves he cant keep up with him in spandex jumping out of a gate to run forty yards. Case in point Jerry Rice, 4.6x forty.

Francis York Morgan
They're all a good bit slower than I thought they'd be, but no one can deny that guys like Sio Moore, Khaseem Greene and Alec Ogletree fly all over the field. 4.7 40 for a linebacker is still above average.Game speed is all that matters. 40 times are annoying...but the drills give you a good idea of a player, as much as you can aside from looking at game tape. falcon90
Because he ran fast? Not not really because he ran fast. Just off of what I saw he looked solid in the drills. Did you see something that you did not like from him? Granted I did catch some of these drills late so maybe you saw something I didn't get a chance too see. Wokezone
If I'm looking for a MLB im looking for a guy with Decent speed that wont just get torched by a TE and is also Strong, and if im looking for a OLB im looking for someone with good speed and agility, and decent strength. youngbloodz
It's all about form. Most of these guys aren't sprinters. So they don't know the proper form to get out the block quick. Don't worry. Now if a WR runs a 5 flat or something like that than your worry
isproab
It is what it is. Everybody was all on the Minter/Ogletree bandwagon and I have heard a lot of hate towards Te'o. At the end of the day, Minter was 1/100 of a second faster than Te'o. Ogletree was a 4.7 which is average in my book.Total body of work. Combine workouts are imortant. If you want a sideline to sideline LB, then Minter and Te'o don't appear to fit that mold based off of these 40 times. They both are good players. If you need MLB help, then go get one of them. Personally, I like the athletes, but and athlete without the instincts and on-field resume isn't much of a draw in my book.
Knight of God
Well, its all relative. The 40 is important and has its uses, but for each position there has to be an understanding of what fast is. Fast for a WR is 4.59 and lower. Fast for a LB is 4.69 and lower, same as a TE. In todays game (hate it) you may need a LB with good longspeed, but you still cannot gauge what they will do on the field. Some guys who run a 4.3 run a 4.7 with pads, while some who run a 4.5 run a 4.5 with pads and so on.
falconstwopercentsized
Linebacker play recognition instinct is the most important trait. Give it to teo
