Our Superbowl Mock - Love To Hate It, Hate To Love It

This mock offseason will put us in a position to improve our greatest assest with is our offense but give some instant improvement to our defense.

Player Cuts

- Turner

- Robinson

Resignings

- Baker

- Grimes

- Extend Ryan

- Owens

- We restructure Babs our we move on,

We move on pass our lower level FA, like Sidbury, Cox, Franks, Reynolds and even Walker.

We are reshaping our Dline to get away from the smaller quicker DT to bring some beef and strength in the middle to get more push and help out our DE and improve our ability to stop the run.

FA Signings

- Osi Umenyiora DE - I know that he is older, but he wont get getting the contract that he thinks he will get and gets an opportunity to play for a contender. This will instantly upgrade our pass rush and will allow Abe to be our pass rushing specialist used.

- Terrence Knighton or Sammie Lee Hill - I like Hill a little better because he is younger but both players have the bulk we need to add to our Dline. Hill will probably be a lot cheaper than Knighton and Hill has a greater chance of actually becoming a FA

The Meat and Potatoes

The Falcons Draft

We strike a trade with the New York Jets because they didnt take a QB in the 1st round like many of the other teams that needed a QB and the Jets want to jump ahead of KC, Arizona, Oakland, and maybe Philly.

Jets give up - 2nd Round and 3rd Round picks

Falcons give up - 1st and 4th Round picks

2nd Round (From Jets)- Eddie Lacy RB Alabama 5'10 220

- We need help at RB and it would be cheaper to pick up a RB in the draft and I doubt that Lacy goes in the 1st with the talent in other positions in this draft. Lacy gives us a good younger replacement for Turner.

2nd Round - Larry Warford G Kentucky 6'3 330

- We need a stud on our Oline. Warford gives us an immediate starter at Guard. If Warford is gone I feel just as comfortable with Travis Frederick from Wis as a 2nd option but the 1st choice is Warford

3rd Round (From Jets) - Sylvester Williams DT North Carolina 6'3 312

- Williams gives us another big body up front, replacing Walker in the rotation. He has upside and built to be productive at both run and pass, he just needs to work on his consistency.

3rd Round - Brandon Jenkins DE FSU 6'3 260

- He is coming off an injury, but it is a Liz Frank so he should be ready to go next. He struggles against the run but his has speed on the edges to get after the QB. He is the RDE of the future.

4th Round (Comp) - Sio Moore LB Conn 6'1 240

- He played well at the East/West Shrine Game. I like his speed, he is a classic 4-3 OLB, he may be a good fit later if we decide to switch to a 3-4 on the inside

5th Round - Cornelius Washington DE UGA 6'4 265

- I like Washington. He played well at the Senior Bowl. He played the 5 tech at UGA so he has the ability to play the run. He could be a good fit as a LDE or even an 3-4 Rush end.

6th Round - Joseph Fauria TE UCLA 6'7 257

- I think that Tony will play one more year, and that will give this kid time to learn from the best. He has alot of upside. I also like Michael Williams from Alabama if Fauria is not available.

7th Round - Rod Sweeting CB Ga Tech 5'11 185

- I love his speed, he may not be much more than a Special Teamer of Nickelback, but he is fast.

Don't think Falcons will have cap space to bring in Osi especially bring back Baker, Moore and Grimes. Osi is about the $ . Falcons will have cap but will take care of own first .

Warford won't be around in 2nd and also you plan on going into season as Coffman starting TE

I also don't see a addition at rb and loss of Turner

not really impressed with off season . Some players I like just don't think a lot of that is realistic

I think that he will, it is a guessing game, if he is gone then we go with the next best guard. Not understanding what you typed about a RB? I know that Osi wants the money but he wont get what he is asking for. I also dont think that Grimes will get the big contract that many expect him too. We can always resign Robinson after camp starts if we cant get grimes in at a cheaper cost.

my mistake you have us taking Lacy in the 2nd . Don't think he is there either

I think he is there at the top of the 2nd. If we have to flip flop the Guard and the rb then we can do that, but it is a chance that he is there and not gone in the 1st round. The value of RB has decreased tremendously when it comes to the draft.

why extend ryan?

let go of Dunta and bring back injury prone Grimes.....then not even draft a CB until the last round.??

Lee-hill is feeding of Avril and Suh.

Knighton did not get to feed off of others. and got tested a lot with having a horrible O that failed more a lot.

trading away our first and fourth for a second and third. did you pull up the point value chart?

- if you want to trade back then why not trasde with someone who wants to trade up and take some big names.....like the rams. and take their second and third and that would be a even exchange. and we would still get to keep our 4th.

Lacy would be nice. but we have major problems on D.

DT.DE.LB.LB.maybe CB? maybe SS?

DT cause it is bad.

DE cause the only thing behind Abe is Biermann; and he is OLB/DE. and needs to be a true floater...but sadly he cannot be cause there is no DE to help him.

Peterson is leaving

Nicholas is horrible in coverage with letting Miller/Davis have a hay day on him.

- Brooking was cut for one play. While Nicholas almost cost us the game againt seahwaks. and he did cost us the game against niners.

4 major D pieces compared to one Major O piece......I say we need a ton of D help.

you just making general statements. I have drafted every position u have listed and even brought in FA to address our issues on D. I think with bigger Dt up front that will help our LB against the run and pass because we will be able to get pressure up the middle by getting a push.

I did follow the trade value chart, I dont half as my mocks my good man. The value for the 2nd and 3rd was 725, the value for our 1st and 4th was 660, so the difference is the premium to move up.

If your going to assume that Lacy is available in the early 2nd & that would be your first pick, I don't see the logic in any trade of our 1st round pick. Why not just take Lacy at 30 if he is there? Your still in the same position you were at the end of the 2nd round.

We bascially moved back to save money and exchange our late 4th for an early 3rd.

Let me see if I'm understanding you correctly, you're wanting to let Walker who is arguably our best DT go, and keep Jerry who is by far our worst DT.

Sign a 31 year old DE that's all about the money, I agree we need to get bigger on the DL, but we need to get younger throughout the entire team.

Pick's are a pipe dream would love them but would never happen.

Love the pick's but i hate the off season decisions

Of course I wouldnt keep Jerry, but you are right might be better to keep Walker and let Babs go. The picks are not that far off, the players mentioned could be on board or they may be gone a few picks earlier you never know what may happen and how teams go, but I took a concensus based on a few draft sites, and made sure I didnt put any crazy things out there that might not happen.

If the Falcons could land Freeny instead of Osi, I would be on board. Just a few things I could nit pick about the mock, but overall I like it.

That is a good option as well, I am fine with most of the FA options available for DE, like Avril, especially Johnson, but Freeney is like Osi a stop gap option for more immediate improvement to our pass rush.

First off sorry for quoting the whole post.

But F**K if I don't like this mock the actual trade down scenario is one of thee most realistic I've seen and the FA picks are on the $$$$$..

I'm not a real fan of Umenyiora this late in the piece but I guess when seeing the actual draft picks I got over it pretty quick.

Sammie Lee Hill Terence Knighton.Larry Warford Sylvester Williams your talking BEEF right there.

Nice work Jaymadd.

Preciate that man. I guess we could make an offer to Freeney also as another poster stated but it would pretty much be a stop gap cause we need immediate improvement on our Dline and I am not too confident that 1st and 2nd round DE/DT's will provide that for us when picking late in the rounds.

Knighton's a terrible run defender, which is nutty considering how big he is. If you think Lee-Hill is feeding off Avril and Suh, you've never watched him. Seriously, just because some pieces of a DL are good doesn't mean that other pieces aren't.

I will "Love-to-Hate"

  • Osi's washed up and will play even worse w/ Falcons w/o the threat of JPP/Tuck.
  • Lacy/Warford are good players that would play well for Falcons but Falcons must get younger and better on defense and you get a bunch of projects at end of draft praying one pans out - and Falcons have not had luck lately with late round defensive picks - this is defensive draft and we need to take advantage.
  • You did not address the Corner position at all either - which is a "Love-to-Hate" for me as our starters are all over 30 and 2-of-3 might not be back (Dunta/Grimes)

The love to hate was for u and Peyton lol. This draft is deep with defensive talent. IMO there is not a big difference between taking a player like Oakafor at 30 than taking a Jenkins in the 3rd with more upside later especially since neither will have much impact now. I want impact players that can help this team now and IMO we have a better chanc of getting those players on defense in FA and drafting those players on offense like lacy and warford. I do agree that I kind of ignored the corner position but I improved the lines now and got players that can make an impact in the future
