Notable re-signings:

William Moore, S

Vance Walker, DT

Sam Baker, LT

Chris Hope, S

Robert McClain, CB

Chris Owens, CB

Garrett Reynolds, RG

Michael Palmer, TE

Antone Smith, RB

Let walk:

Mike Cox, FB

Brent Grimes, CB

Luke McCown, QB

Lawrence Sidbury, DE

Cut:

Dunta Robinson, CB

Michael Turner, RB

Retire:

Tony Gonzalez, TE

Todd McClure, C (recently stated he would return for another year, but I doubt he will be offered a contract, thus leading to his retirement)

Mike Peterson, LB

FAs:

Danny Amendola, WR (Rams are hesitant to sign and will not tag Amendola because of his injury history. While

his injuries are a concern, Amendola is an extremely reliable and underrated middle-of-the-field receiver.)

Dustin Keller, TE (A stop-gap replacement for Tony. Nowhere near Gonzalez's ability; however, Keller will come cheap- he had an off season and, right now, nobody wants to be a Jet.)

Draft:

1st Round - Kawann Short, DT, 6'3 308

Finally, a guy who can get some pressure up the middle. Not your traditional bull-rusher, but rather has great burst and a great swim move. Some concerns with his pad level and as a result sometimes gets pushed back on run plays, but overall has the tools to become very successful at rushing the QB and stopping the run in the NFL.

2nd Round - Arthur Brown, LB, 6'1 228

Originally I wanted the Falcons to trade up to get Alec Ogletree, and while he is a better player than Brown, the price the team would have to pay does not match the difference in value between the two players. Brown would likely be an immediate starter in Nolan's defence and, paired with Spoon, would be a great in coverage.

3rd Round - Brandon Jenkins, DE/OLB, 6'3 260

Here's where the draft gets interesting. Jenkins broke his foot in the first this year and missed the entirety of the season. However, he was a somewhat dominant defensive player for the Seminoles in his previous two seasons, in which he amassed 21.5 sacks. He is explosive, and could very-well be the replacement for Abe. He can play 3-4 OLB and 4-3 DE.

4th Round - Sean Porter, DE/OLB, 6'1 231

I've seen many mocks placing this guy really high in the draft (some in the early second, late first), but I highly doubt he is picked then and I always like to throw a guy who could slip into my mocks because it's fun. The reason why I think he slips so much is because he is good at everything but not great at any. He also lacks size for the position he probably excels most at (which is 3-4 rushing OLB). He is a tweener. Played 4-3 OLB this year, hindering his stats (another reason he slips), but recorded 9.5 sacks the year before as a pass rusher. He would benefit the Falcons by setting the edge and containing mobile QBs that have snakebitten the team recently.

4th Round (Cond.) - Ace Sanders, WR/KR, 5'8 175

The Falcons need a kick returner. Why not grab the best one to come out of the draft in years? Immediate 4th WR that would be used as a 'specialist' in the offence.

5th Round - Hugh Thornton, G, 6-3 313

Only guy I kept from the last mock draft. 8th ranked OG, played some OT. Strong. Good technique.

6th Round - Ray Graham, 5'9 192

Had an ACL injury that ended a what-would-be school record setting season over a year ago. This year he was his fast, explosive self again with a little less burst, but still solid nonetheless. Graham has the lateral agility of a LeSean McCoy, has great pass catching ability and can burn you, but it's still to be seen if he will completely recover from his injury. His size is a concern to some, too, but in the Falcons' offence I can't see it being a problem. Would split carries with Quizz.

7th Round- BPA (got lazy)

Meh, it's not that the mock is bad or that the picks don't make sense, it's just that you've picked guys that aren't what I'd prefer to see drafted. Your last mock seemed to contain more of what I like for us. Guys like Gilisless and Okafor are what I'm hoping for. Also hope to land Khaseem Greene.

I went the 'hipster' route on this one. But the picks do make sense when you think about it. Gives us a solid man in the trenches, a great LBer and 2 potential stars to rush the passer with.

I don't dislike it, I do worry that it doesn't impact our pass rush as well as Id like. I really really want a good pass rush next year.

Brandon Jenkins, I feel, is better than Okafor.

That is an interesting mock. Its similar to what I'm expecting in one scenario.

Like I said, it's not that you did a bad route or that it doesn't make sense because your first three picks definitely help the defense like a lot of people want. I usually prefer to see something like Okafor-Greene-Gilislee for the starting three, but Short is certainly a worthwhile addition to the team if he falls to us.

It's all goodies. Okafor-Greene-Gillislee would be tremendous also!

he had a pretty good season. Just needs to learn to tackle. So u think owens, franks, and McClain are going to start opposite Samuel and we will be fine? Not going to happen.

McClain can start opposite Samuel and we will be fine. McClain is a surer tackler and a better coverage guy than Dunta.

bold statement - but ur Mock is almost exactly mine - I think we go NT first round - we will pair Jenkins with Mass as he was slated as much better 3-4 guys, which is why i think they drafted him as well be heading toward a more base 3-4 look - not sure about Short - u think hes better than either Williams aLa or Brandon

Defensive tackles

1) Sheldon Richardson, Missouri

2) Star Lotulelei, Utah

3) Sharrif Floyd, Florida

4) Johnathan Hankins, Ohio State

5) Sylvester Williams, North Carolina

In the mix: Jesse Williams, Alabama; Kawann Short, Purdue; John Jenkins, Georgia; Brandon Williams, Missouri Southern.

The deepest collection of talent in the 2013 class is unquestionably at the defensive tackle position. Lotulelei ranks as the top defensive tackle on several boards across the league, but Richardson is a more talented defender with better athleticism and a higher-revving motor. Their battle will certainly intensify over the coming months as scouts dig deeper into the tape and begin to separate production from reputation. Sylvester Williams and Short were strong performers during Senior Bowl week; their stock will continue to rise during the workout circuit.

He's not as strong as Williams or as good in the run game as Jenkins, but is by far one of the best pass rushers. We need a guy who can get pressure up the middle more than anything and that's what Short will give us. We will also need to find a space eater at some point, too. Hopefully in FA.

pass on those FA's

Cook instead? Amendola is a very good player.

OK - i was thikning babs would be the penetrating DT - so is short more of a Nose or 3 tech?

Babs is almost done. Need to start looking at replacements. Not to mention the fact that you can never have too much penetration. Mike Cox can attest to that.
