ChickenBiscuit
So why go all defense? I just don't understand why we would try and draft a few defensive players to get a decent defense when our offense, our strength, will take a hit.People wanna go DE, DT, TE, RB but I honestly think TE, RB, DE, DT, WR would be better. If we've got key players missing, why not just let Nolan get his scheme players and add on to what is already an amazing offense.Honestly, we could have beaten the 49ers by 14 if we just kept on passing. If we had a running gain we would have hung 38 on them no problem. If we can drop THAT many points on two of the best defenses in the NFL week after week, why would we go defense when we could have just outscored them? Tuggle'2
Drafting a DE , DT , and LB will not cause the offense to take a hit. That is just silly to think that way. Our defense will not magically become elite but it needs a lot of work if we want to be taken seriously. We will still be trying to find a TE , RG , and RB so this whole conversation is kind of moot. falconstwopercentsized
I'd go defense with the premier picks 1 - 3 and use the back end to improve the run game.

Guest King Jigsaw
I almost agree with the OP in a certain way. Rather than using the first three picks on defense or even an entire defensive draft if we went DE (Okafor), OG (Warford), RB (Gilislee), TE (Kelce), and then use the remainder of picks on BPA DT, WR, CB, then I don't see us coming out of it too bad. More reps mean more chances to score, also 08 09 falcons line would just whip the other teams *** until they won. The defenses would be so visibly tired in the 4th it was very easy for the pass and run game. Tired defense plus roddy and julio equals blow outs. Fix the run game. I think it goes a long way towards making serious impacts on both sides of the ball.I do see us going Receiver late, someone like Hester was for Chicago. A return specialist that could fight for snaps on offense and hopefully contribute in the passing game.

He was a heartbeat away from landing the job this preseason, and we'll need the corner depth. Franks has gotta go YESTERDAY. Guest King Jigsaw
I wouldn't waste my time or money on Franks, and HD was just as bad in the return game. And by that I mean both of their ST contributions were nonexistent. If you can land Bumphis late in the draft, someone who's known to contribute in both a passing game and returning punts, I wouldn't complain. His decision making was atrocious and I just didn't understand it at all. He would fair catch for no reason then the next punt he would let the ball go by and bounce to the 1yd line. God that was aggravating.
Guest King Jigsaw
I wanted to strangle whoever coached him. The rule is always to put your heels on the ten yard line. If the ball is going to go over your head, you let it. You can move laterally or forward to catch it but never move back. Never fair catch it inside the ten. The stuff he did just made no sense.
Guest King Jigsaw
I'd like to think that our coaches aren't that terrible and that he was just a moron, which is why he was replaced by HD late in the season. Hopefully that'll be his ticket out the door and we can replace him with someone better.
mumblesjr
if not heavy D up front this season, there are alot of starters on D that aren't too young after next season(drob, samuels, grimes, nic, jerry, babs, abraham). need to get younger/better on D. Peyton
How could anybody have watched the playoffs and feel this way?No matter how good your offense is, you aren't going to score a TD on every possession.........unless you are playing a team with a defense as soft as Atlanta's is going to be if we don't get some young talent on it. Francis York Morgan
I thought the identity you were talking about was going to be of us as chokers. Sadly, that's pretty much the perception right now...even though everyone was counting us out of it to begin with, we looked good for a while against the 49ers. Which meant that they could call the end score a meltdown on our part. It's a win-win for the media.

That's an identity we are going to be holding on to if we don't tighten up that D.

Tuggle'2
we have enough mid-late round de s that ain t doing sheet. this years draft is deep at de. we have to take advantage.Yep. I would love for us to finally hit on a monster pass rusher. Its our turn to find a Watt , Smith , or JPP. If we had a guy who could put up 15+ sacks in a year along with Abes limited play I would probably drop dead.
Guest King Jigsaw
I really wish Ansah hadn't blown his stock so high. If we could have gotten him, he'd be our very own JPP. I would likely be getting an Ansah jersey. Honestly, if Lacy, Warford, and/or Okafor end up as Falcons then I'm not going to be too upset. If we have a stranglehold over the NFC-South for a couple more years, I think that will do a lot for our identity.
