JulioHOFer
This team has two "windows" for a Super Bowl in my opinionThe 1st window is the next few seasons which is the veterans in and approaching their 30's last chances with the team before they retire/are released at various points, guys like Turner (probably cut this offseason), Gonzalez obviously, White, Clabo, Abraham, Babineaux, Samuel, Robinson, etc...Then there is the 2nd long term window which is basically all of Ryans career with guys like Ryan, Rodgers, Jones, Douglas, Blalock, Konz, Holmes, Biermann, Peters, Spoon, Moore, DecoudThere are some major talents on this team like Gonzalez and Abe that are very near retirement, and guys like White, Samuel, and Babineaux who are still effective but will begin to drop off to varying degrees over the next few seasonsThe question is, seeing how we should be in the Super Bowl right now, how much does Blank push to capitalize on this window, or does he take the "smart" long term approach of not overpaying vets and focusing on drafting and extending young playersThis will be a playoff team for a very long time but as those vets retire it will take a lot of succesful drafting to replace their production and leadershipPerhaps he makes some big moves to push for winning it this next season for guys like Gonzalez (last season if he comes back) and Abe (34 and last season if he gets a ring I imagine), and once those vets retire go pack to a pure focus on the draft and extending young guys mode
Taydumz
Honestly depends on our draft next cpl years if we draft studs on defense we could be in it for a long time. Brees is getting older freeman is terrible n cam will be cam!

Peyton
IF TD doesn't hit on a pass rusher soon the Falcons are going to simply fade away just like San Diego Chargers.

papachaz
ok so Roddy, Abe, and Asante start dropping off the next few years. How do you know we don't draft the replacements this year or next year? once you get the good solid core team built, it's easier to replace the few guys each year who drop off and/or retire.was having a similar discussion on another board, using the cowboys as an example. the other person was 'Landry didn't win the superbowl until he got Staubach, and they won it his first year'but Landry was the only coach they'd had, along with having the same GM the whole time he was there. And he didn't even have a winning season until his 7th year, didn't win the SuperBowl until his ELEVENTH year win he got Staubach. He'd had and used the 10 previous years to put that whole team together....and they stayed in the playoffs, went to the SB and won another one over the course of the next several years. then his replacements started to not be as good and they fell off. He was given the job in 69 and in 70 but he played so bad he lost the job. In 1971, he finally won the job and held on to it.....and won the Super Bowl. sdogg
IF TD doesn't hit on a pass rusher soon the Falcons are going to simply fade away just like San Diego Chargers. This^^^We have to get some pass rushers on this D. Abe is on his very last leg and will be done real soon. This team has done a horrible job at finding a compliment to Abe and now we must find his replacement, in addition to a compliment to Abe's replacement. We need at least 2 legit pass rushers, ASAP. TD better get it right this offseason.

If Tony really does retire and Roddy misses a game or two with injury next year, you watch how different this offense will look.

MAD597
There is no such thing a SB Window, we see every year some team come out of nowhere and make a playoff run. Every year every teams try to make moves to get them to the Superbowl, we are in much better shape than most teams cause we at least make the playoffs every year. It's not like our Roster is static, we always make moves to improve and replace players that leave or retire. It is simply a silly chicken little mind that think we only have a certain amount of time to make win a Superbowl. Any year any team can win a superbowl stop over thinking yourselves. Edited January 30, 2013 by MAD597
MAD597
the window is ryan's career in atlanta.Even then we will eventually replace him, it's not like when he retires we play 10 on 11 without a QB.
Taydumz
Injury to our wr or cbs would hurt we gotta draft atleast one cb n one wr in the late rounds
takeitdown
If they devote 1.5 of their first 2 picks (3 out of 4 every 2 years) to OL and DL, and use the other .5, 3rds and 4ths for RBs, LBs, S, TEs, WRs, I think we will see a long window. But that has to happen.Ryan with a good OL, and Jones on the outside, can do well with a WR corps of 3rd rounders. He can't do well with 7th rounders. And in general, don't need the 1st rounders there. If in 4 years, they have 6 new first or 2nd round OLs and DLs, a first or 2nd round CB and a first or 2nd round WR/TE/LB, that's a very good base. Combined with 2 3rd or 4th round LBs, 4 3rd or 4th round WRs, 2 3rd or 4th round RBs...you then have a lot of options. Mix in a few mid tier FAs and a splash every 2 or 3 years, and there's no reason this team can't be good for a long time. But if they keep taking WRs and LBs in the first, and OL/DL in the 4th, we're on a bad trajectory. JulioHOFer
So are we not counting this window we had the last 3-5 years? just because we didn't go through it doesn't mean it wasn't there. This team was not ready for a Super Bowl those yearsThe first years under Smith was turning this into a respectable team from a bad one, because of basically TurnerBut we had a young QB, 1 WR in Roddy White, bad DThis team is just entering its true Championship window nowThis team should be in the Super Bowl. Even though the DL was totally unqualified for the playoffsAdd a quality DT and DE and now you're talking about legit Super Bowl contender, upgrade the OL and add a speed back and we're really talking

JulioHOFer
Well its usually a 5yr window. We are close to the rebuilding segment. What? This team was a joke when TD and Smith got hereThey brought in a franchise QB and Turner and rode him to become a respectable team that made the playoffsNow Ryan is developing into an elite veteran QB and has an absolute BEAST of a receiver that isn't even in his prime yet and makes incredible plays look routineAll that time has been spent building to this point we are entering now and you're talking about rebuilding? Aftermath
This team was not ready for a Super Bowl those yearsI disagree, we haven't spent the last 5 years rebuilding. Perhaps in 2008 and 2009 but we had an excellent shot from 2010-2012 and didn't take advantage of it. Things are only going to get more difficult IMO, going to be harder to keep the organization together and soon Ryan will get a monster contract and Julio to follow. Giving QBs gigantic contracts rarely works out for the team in question but not only do we have Ryan but JJ who will get a monster deal as well. Not saying we don't have a chance at a SB in the future but our best opportunity was 2010-2012. Ryan and JJ were still on rookie contracts, TG was still around, and other veterans that are getting up there now were in their prime. This team is going to need some brilliant drafts over the next few seasons, and this season in particular, if they want to stay competitive.
