Mock Draft V4 End Of Season

This will probably be my final mock until FA is over and we sign the guys we want. It should make the draft much clearer in terms of positions we target.

Pre-season mock: http://boards.atlant...in#entry6835978

Mid-season mock: http://boards.atlant...-mock-draft-v2/

End of regular season mock: http://boards.atlant...-mock-draft-v3/

V4

FA - DT/NT Terrance Knighton

With news we might be shifting to the 3-4 (although it will still be probably be a hybrid D), Knighton gives us great versatility for both schemes as he has the size and talent to play NT in either scheme. He's become my #1 target.

FA - LB Daryl Smith

Is a pretty good player who has experience playing all linebacker positions. He'll be like a younger version of Mike Peterson and will provide competition with Nicholas and Dent for their spots. SLB is his strongest position and I wouldn't be surprised if he unseats Nicholas.

FA - DE/LB Antwan Barnes

Pass rushing specialist who got injured but the year before, quietly put up double digit sacks. Would help in our transition to the 3-4 as he brings experience at that position.

Draft

1. Kawann Short DT

2. Alvin Bailey OG

3. Joseph Randle RB

4. William Gholston DE

4. Gavin Escobar TE

5. David Quessenberry OT

6. David Bass DE/OLB

7. Cooper Taylor DB

7. Aaron Mellette WR

5 of these players have made an appearance in one of my previous mock drafts... The new comers are Randle, Escobar, Bass and Taylor.

Short - He is really good and he's tearing up the senior bow. Really good against the run and he improved his pass rushing this year. He uses his hands pretty well and is good at splitting double teams.

Bailey - It doesn't look like we'll get a shot at Warford but I prefer Bailey anyway because he's better in pass protection against the blitz whereas Warford lacks awareness IMO which is pretty important. We've seen Matt take some vicious hits from a free rusher. Bailey is intelligent and a powerful run blocker.

Randle - Slowly starting to become one of my favourite backs. He might need to add a bit more weight to be durable but he runs with a ton of power and is fearless. He is tough to bring down while he gets a lot of yards after contact.

Gholston - Underrated atm. Good measurables, he's scheme versatile too. Could line up at DE in both 4-3 and 3-4. Powerful and disruptive against the run and pass. Needs to learn and use more pass rush moves but I don't think it should be a huge problem for him. He's disciplined enough and can shed well to impact right away against the run.

Escobar - Big bodied tight end with good hands who can adjust well to off target passes. Haven't seen him a lot but he has ideal size and good # that suggests he could become an important player in the offence. He's not going to get all of TG's targets, that'll be spread out with the #3-#5 WR, Coffman and the running backs.

Quessenberry - Has the lateral agility to mirror and play LT. Really strong pass blocker and moves his feet well. He's been a staple in my last 2 mocks and he's also impressing at the senior bowl. Baker is injury prone so he can provide assurance, especially if Baker's play dips. Maybe even challenge him for the spot although that might be a stretch in his rookie year.

Bass - New name but I've been really impressed. He dominated the competition although it wasn't the toughest but he held his own in the east-west shrine practices and games. He plays OLB, I think he could slim down a bit and we've got someone who could man a spot on the outside sooner rather than later. Very instinctual and an asset on passing downs whether it's attacking the QB or dropping back.

Taylor - Another guy that impressed during the east-west shrine practices. He has unique size and good speed which will allow him to physically match up against the tight ends which are tearing up the NFL right now. He's a bit of a project but we need a better answer to these big and fast tight ends.

Mellette - Brilliant route runner, he has the ability to make improbable catches and is also a dangerous YAC threat. Between him, Escobar and the increased usage of Douglas, it should come close to making up for TG's loss.

Depth chart

QB: Ryan, Davis, McCown

RB: Randle, Rodgers, Snelling

FB: Ewing

WR: White, Jones, Douglas, Mellette, Davis

TE: Escobar, Palmer, Coffman

LT: Baker, Quessenberry

LG: Blalock, Johnson

OC: Konz, Hawley

RG: Bailey, Reynolds

RT: Clabo, Holmes

That's 25 players on offence. Holmes/Quessenberry could back up either, like Snelling could back up FB. It'll be decided in camp.

4-3

DE: Abraham, Matthews, Massaquoi

DT: Babineaux, Short, Robertson

DT: Knighton, Peters, Walker

DE: Biermann, Gholston, Bass

OLB: Weatherspoon, James

MLB: Dent

OLB: Nicholas, Smith

3-4

DE: Babineaux, Short

NT: Knighton, Walker

DE: Gholston, Peters

OLB: Abraham, Matthews, Massaquoi

ILB: Weatherspoon, Smith

ILB: Nicholas, Dent

OLB: BIermann, Barnes, Bass

CB: Robinson, Owens

FS: DeCoud, Mitchell

SS: Moore, Taylor

CB: Samuel, McClain, Franks

That's 26 on D. We should probably bring in Jim Leonhard on veteran minimum as assurance at safety because Moore gets injured quite a bit. I'd love to have Grimes back but I'm not sure we got the $$$ to keep him and I want to blood the young corners too, especially McClain who looks like a future starter to me.

K: Matt Bryant

P: Matt Bosher

Brings the total to 53.

I am not a fan of Randle at all. I just do not like his running style at all.

Like Escobar alot. If he fell to the 5th then i'd love to take him there. Other than Kelce is my 2nd favorite TE in this draft.

I see what you mean, his upright style can be problematic in terms of injuries.

The Escobar comment is encouraging. I haven't seen him a lot myself but I've heard a lot of good stuff about him.

I actually love upright running styles normally. AP and Demarco Murray have upright running styles, but i don't like his. I don't know exactly what it is. Maybe its that he is a smaller guy than them.

Yeah i have read and watched ALOT on TE's and i really like him. Other than him being hispanic and wearing 88 he really does remind me of Gonzo in some ways :)

So you think we shouldn't find extra pass rush help on the outside? Im just not sure abes and kroy will cut it, i havent heard much on bass but as a 6th rounder can we really expect much outta him this year?

Abraham is still good. I just think we need more help at DT than at DE to collapse the pocket and make it easier for the DE to finish the plays. I did bring in 2 DE in the draft, although Gholston projects to leaving his hands in the dirt in a 3-4 while Bass will be standing up.

The players taken should give Nolan the personnel needed to scheme pressure, especially with a 3-4.

He has the legs of a 14 year old maybe the reason. He needs to get stronger and ticker down there so he can produce more leg drive.

Like this overall and I don't think that, if their big FA signing is a NT, that they'll spend the first pick on a NT- assuming they cut Jerry, still leaves Babs, Walker, Robertson and Peters.

Think if they sign Knighton, they'd draft the best DE left at 30. Swap out your 1st and 4th picks and it'll seem more likely to happen to me. Best DE left in round 1, best DT in round 4.

Aside from that, really like the mock and would be happy going into the season with either scenario.

Thanks. I was actually really undecided on whether to go DT/OG/RB/DE or DE/OG/RB/DE and nearly did 2 scenarios based on just a position change with the 1st and 4th. In scenario B, I would have mocked us Margus Hunt in the 1st and Akeem Spence in the 4th while keeping the rest the same.

I don't see us getting a DT to start in FA and getting one in the 1st. And Idk why everyone is so high on Knighton, he was benched, what makes everyone think he will instantly upgrade our line

I love the Bailey and Escobar. I agree 100% about Bailey, I think he'd be a solid plug and play guy at RG for us.
