Falcan Moore's Mock Offseason Version 1.9

Recommended Posts

1.9 because I'll do a more thorough 2.0 later with explanations. Just a fast draft I put together based off of what I want/have wanted. Obviously not final. I can elaborate more on why I want the players if you want, but rest assured, I feel like these guys are borderline steals at their slots.

For FAs, I'm having us only pick up Randy Starks (DT) and Chris Ivory (RB). Starks will be expensive. Ivory will not, though we might have some competition for him. For us, I'd like us to sign some obvious guys back, like Baker, Moore, and some less obvious ones like Antoine Smith. Don't have the time list them all out right this second, but I might edit this post later. Not too worried about TE like some of you are. I think that Palmer and Coffman are fine, especially considering how talented our WR corps is. Coffman is especially intriguing. If Kelce slips to our spot in the 4th, I'd take him, but I don't see that happening.

Making a couple assumptions for comp picks, that’s what our second 4th round pick is. Traded our first to the Jags for their 2nd, 5th, and 6th - DEs are going to start really going off fast, and this gives them a higher pick for the best player possible, while we don't necessarily need anyone that high since we have some flexibility on which need to fill first. I then have us bundling up that 6th, 5th, and our 2nd to ship to the Vikings, who have a lot of holes to fill on their team, giving us their 55th pick. In essence, we end up with a really high second rounder and a mid-second rounder. The second round is loaded, but there's a sharp dropoff as you get into the last six to eight picks.

2nd (34) - Manti Te'o, ILB, 6'2, 255 lbs, Notre Dame, Projected 40: 4.75 sec

2nd(55) - Khaseem Greene, OLB, 6'1, 236 lbs, Rutgers, Projected 40: 4.64 sec

3rd (94) - Blidi Wreh-Wilson, CB, 6’1, 192 lbs, Connecticut, Projected 40: 4.44 sec

4th(126) - William Gholston, DE, 6'6, 278 lbs, Michigan State, Projected 40: 4.76 sec

4th(130) - Jordan Hill, DT, 6'2, 294 lbs, Penn State, Projected 40: 5.06 sec

5th(160) - Tavarres King, WR, 6'0, 192 lbs, Georgia, Projected 40: 4.48 sec

6th(196) - Cameron Lawrence, OLB, 6'2, 233 lbs, Mississippi State, Projected 40: 4.69 sec

7th(232) - Dennis Johnson, RB, 5'8, 212 lbs, Arkansas, Projected 40: 4.52 sec

Yeah, I still like Te'o. Fight me.

This is pretty solid, especially with the FA moves. I'd rather Knighton over Starks personally, and I'd rather take a RB in the 2nd than go after Ivory who is an RFA iirc. Still think we should at least take a guard somewhere. Is CB a major need? I think we're alright there for another season.

I dont think teo will fall outta the first and to be honest... Idont really want him. I think we can probably get a linebacker later and put more imphasis on a DE to eventually replace Abe, we need to find pass rush along our d line and i dont feel this draft addresses that.

Pass rush is Green, Gholston, and Hill. Starks is good at getting interior push too. Green is one of the better blitzing OLBs out there and he's one of those guys always striving to get better. If Te'o doesn't fall out of the first, I'm fine with us staying there and getting Okafor, or maybe trading down our 1st and 2nd to Cincy, taking their two seconds, and drafting Margus Hunt and Green. Minter would be nice too, but I think we'd have to trade up to land him.

As to why I took Wreh-Wilson, he's big, athletic, and could easily have been an early second pick if not for being injured in 2010 and not playing for a huge school. He steps up in the big games. And CB isn't that secure...Robinson and Samuels are getting older, Grimes will leave as a FA. McClain rules but I'd like to see him stay at nickel. Wilson could be a number 2 for us.

Johnson is also a bit of a KR/PR specialist, though not my favorite in the draft. I'd like us to take a flier on Mathieu as well, but if we did, I can see us maybe passing on Wilson and looking at taking a TE.

I love the Jordan Hill pick, also if we are going to get a WR i want someone 6'3 plus to put in the slot. We need to be the team to break away from the small SR'S.

Also you should think about us getting a guard in the 3rd for when Konz slide to center.

I'm going into this with the mindset that either a) Reynolds plays, because he was actually very good at RG for us or B) we slide Clabo to guard and have Holmes play RT. Warford would be nice though.

That would def. shake up our O line, you think Holmes is ready for starting duty?

Reynolds was soild but, I'am afraid he will get hurt again and is rusty and might have lost step.

Te'o is vastly over rated in my opinion. That and I don't really see the need at linebacker like I do DE, and even beyond that there is a lot of talent at DE this year. It would be a shame to pass up on guys like Okafor, Hunt, Lemonier, etc.. Other than that it's not bad.

I'm not sure if you guys have been watching but Jordan Hill is killing his draft stock, in two days at practice he has been bullied by OG, OC it's been pretty bad, I really can't justify taking two linebacker in the first two picks especially when DE and DT are such a need. The two picks I do like are Ghloston and King. I really think we will be going DE and DT first two picks.

Not sure about DT. Could always get Geathers instead, I just really like Hill, haven't seen much of the Senior Bowl practice though. I would have included it more in the original post, but I've also been considering getting either Minter or Okafor...it's just difficult to do that while also getting Green, and I think Green will do really well in the NFL as a weak side OLB.

We do get alot of talent but I think you're overreacting to Nicholas' horrible play in the playoffs. 3 Lbs is a little too much. Replace one of the LBs with a DE and I think it'll be alot better.

Lawrence is more of a special teamer, and we don't really have depth at OLB in the first place. But I agree overall, looking back at it...I just wanted a way to get Te'o and Green, but I'd settle for Minter and Lemonier just as well.

Green reminds me of Lavonte from last year and we see how he is doing.

I actually read the exact opposite on Walter today, they said he was one of the better DT's today.

Reynolds is not the answer at rg he is serviceable but we need to draft a guard with one of the 1st two picks. I would be disappointed if Reynolds was our starter next year. I think u went overboard with the lb especially inside lbs. I am not feeling this draft and and I am not big on spending big money for a FA DT.

Literally every one on one drill Jordan hill was getting pancaked. I didn't see much from him on 11 on 11's either. Watch the senior bowl practice on their website from the past two days and you'll see. Walterfootball must be high on their horse if they think Hill did well.

I think we address OG in free agency, do you think that's the way we could address it ? I'm saying if we re sign Reynolads he most likely will be our opening day starter.

If we use a 1st or 2nd round pick on a guard then we will be seeing Reynolds on the bench, but I dont even think we should resign him and use the money elsewhere.
