domeOFpain
The fact is, the offense scored Zero, "0", points in the 2nd half. That's not defense...that's offense.
TheIdowu
1. we all know our defense has been overachieving all season due to Nolan2. Nolan has been squeezing every bit of production he can out of our defensive unit3. we expected more out of the defense because we over rate our talent and players on the defense4. the defense ave up 14 points in the first half; they gave up 14 points in the second half5. the offense put up 24 points in the first half; they put up 0 points in the second half6. We shouldnt be surprised by the defense; at least they gave up no more than the first half. The offense we have is top five in the league, maybe even top 3. We should expect at least a TD in the second half. All we needed were 5 more points to win the game. . . . . the offense couldn't even get in FG position to score 3. . . .OFFENSE

A-TowN.-
Offense is what kept us in the game. Defense got man handled two weeks in a row now.
Elite02
The defense only stopped the niners once in the second half and gave the offense the ball on Atlanta's own one yard line. Probably would have been better off to have the niners score rather than be pinned on the one with Turner out of the game so that an already anemic rushing offense is just inept. Akers missed the one field goal. A gift more than a stop.
AF89
But lets face it, Matt Ryan and Co. barley had the ball in the second half, our defense was just plain awful. Part of that is our inablilty to establish a run game (not for a lack of trying) but more of that falls on that D which which had to fight tooth and nail just to get to third down, they're just awful.I'm not happy at all with "D Block" right now. Flacco finally overcame it! Niners had to do it last year

Herr Beast
It is really more a mentallity problem that affects the whole team than the problem of either the offense or the defense. Part of the problem is that we don´t have an identity as a football team.
Darkflight
Thank you. I was going to make this thread. We're supposed to have this explosive offense, yet we couldnt muster up a single point in the 2nd half. Hats off to all the fans at the game. After every disappointing drive/ turnover we would stand up scream at the top of our lungs. And even when the D got a stop the O did nothing. Man we should have won this game easily. FinalScore2.0
The defense had the same problem against the niners as it had against the seahawks. But the chances to win were still there. It came down to who made the fewest mistakes. The fumble by Ryan was huge but so was the poor throw to a wide open Douglas. It reminded me of the throw to Drew Davis all alone in the end zone and Davis had to make a great catch and get his feet down. Both are mental errors by the QB but it doesn't mean he cannot become a better QB. FinalScore2.0
Just re-watched the controversial catch by Douglas. It wasn't a bad throw by Ryan, Douglas lost his footingand had to make a difficult catch.

falconidae
everyone keeps blaming the D? Half the threads on the front page are ripping Ryan.
Peyton
I think obviously it was a complete team loss. The defense played like garbage after the first two series, but it's also true that a team is rarely going to win a conference championship game going scoreless in the second half. The Falcons have to get defensive help on all 3 levels and come back and try and do better next time. birdz4i
Offense is what kept us in the game. Defense got man handled two weeks in a row now.can t totally blame the d when the o disappeared in the 2nd halves of both games, what 7 points in 4 qtrs?. fact is our o and d played great in both first halves, and both disappeared in the 2nd halves. that to me is more about coaching. youngbloodz
Our offense is almost set. TE,RG,running back is all we need. Defense needs work. Need to get bigger and faster on that side
