Vicious
http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcsouthThe Atlanta Falcons just put out their release for Sunday’s NFC Championship Game and there’s one page that jumped out at me. It’s the one that breaks down Mike Smith’s 56-24 record in his first five seasons. We already know that’s the second-best record for the first five years for any coach (George Seifert started 62-18 as he inherited a dynasty). But you can slice Smith’s record just about any way and it still is very impressive. Let’s take a look (and this is regular season only):vs. the NFC 39-20vs. the AFC 17-4vs. the NFC South 17-13Home 33-7Away 23-171 p.m. (ET) games 38-174 p.m. (ET) games 11-3Prime-time games 8-4Indoors 38-13Outdoors 18-11Falcons score first 42-10Falcons lead at halftime 44-2Falcons lead going into fourth quarter 42-1Falcons lead in time of possession 38-8Falcons gain 300 yards 44-14Hold opponent under 300 yards 23-1Falcons have a 300-yard passer 10-8Falcons have a 100-yard rusher 16-3Falcons have a 100-yard receiver 26-12Falcons win turnover battle 34-3Falcons have five or fewer penalties 40-15Falcons have 20 first downs 40-

NOVAFalconFan
Very nice, for those who want Mike Smith gone, shame on you.I don't think anyone wants Mike Smith gone, they just love to complain about how he goes about his business. Best coach we have ever had, but a different kind of guy. I am a fan.
Lee Long©
Sounds like he coaches winning teams to me!
Butudontseeme™
The first half of the stats are impressive but the rest seem like stats that would favor any coach??Like... If x qb has more than 100+ passer rating he is 12-3. Well duh because he played great.
OC
Sounds to me like if we get a lead going into halftime, we have absolutely nothing to worry about. Oh, wait...

bossFALCON™
We've only had 19 100 yard rushing games under Smitty? That doesn't sound right, especially considering Turner had a 1,699 season and two other seasons with 1,300+...
falcons007
Good question actually.Just looked it up.From 2008Pats are 51-7Saints are 44-5Aaron Rodgers is 45-9. So much for stepping on throat of opponent. Edited January 17, 2013 by falcons007
raysnill1
Not bad for the myth of Smitty ball.Smitty ball is not a myth. sure we come away with a win somehow, but it's the reason so many of us almost have to go to the ER after watching a Falcons game
falcons007
Smitty ball is not a myth. sure we come away with a win somehow, but it's the reason so many of us almost have to go to the ER after watching a Falcons gameThis year there was no Smitty ball in most of the games this year. I agree execution needs to be better but Falcons might have been too aggressive. Edited January 17, 2013 by falcons007

OC
We still won. It wasn't pretty, but we won.yeah, I know. Hopefully next time we get a big lead like that, we keep it.Smitty ball is not a myth. sure we come away with a win somehow, but it's the reason so many of us almost have to go to the ER after watching a Falcons gameI think more and more, we're starting to see that it might be. Sure, some of the problem was playcalling. But if anything, many would argue that the plays called Sunday weren't conservative enough. Plus, some of it was also execution. falcons007
Last time falcons lost a game with the lead in 4th qtr was against the Saints in 2008. Falcons haven't lost a game with lead in 4th qtr for last 4 years.
