nestaselect
Gregg Rosenthal article on how we should have lost. This is the tweet I sent him.@greggrosenthal You're a hack. Your bias against the Falcons is as tired as your writing. You're the Perez Hilton of http://NFL.comHere is his "Piece".http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000125862/article/pete-carroll-refs-said-practice-kicks-werent-allowedThe Seattle Seahawks nearly pulled off the greatest fourth-quarter comeback in NFL playoff history. And yet Pete Carroll and his crew will spend much of the offseason wondering: What if?This was a game the Seahawks should have won. They scored zero points on two trips inside the 15-yard line in the first half. And they should have been able to capitalize on Russell Wilson's sensational effort after they grabbed the lead with 31 seconds left. Perhaps the most confusing moment came when Carroll took a timeout before Atlanta Falcons kicker Matt Bryant's game-winning field goal.Carroll took a timeout, then Bryant was able to get off a "practice kick." Bryant missed it. Carroll was irate after the play because of a conversation he had with officials before the game."The officials told us before the game that nobody's going to get a chance to do that," Carroll said. "I asked them pregame what if somebody does, and they didn't know what the answer was, obviously. I had never heard that before, so I was just challenging it."It's hard not to wonder if Bryant would have made the kick without a practice attempt. Icing the kicker has been statistically proven not to help, and giving kickers an extra swing at the ball is a detriment to the team that's on defense. Relive every game this season online and on-demand with enhanced viewing features, including the "All-22" coaches film. Get NFL Game Rewind. (Also a detriment for the Seahawks: They blitzed on Atlanta's two completions on the game-winning drive. The blitzer was late both times.)A lot of stories will be written about the Falcons finally getting over the hump with their 30-28 win. They deserve a ton of credit, but Seattle's mistakes in the first half and its approach in the final 31 seconds helped along the way."I would have really liked it if he missed the kick," Carroll said. jkitsune
Pete should spend a lot more time asking himself how his '#1 defense' gives up 40 yards on 2 plays with 31 seconds left, and a lot less time worrying about Bryant's 'practice kick.' slamee101
It's not a "practice" kick if you call it RIGHT before the snap during a game. You tried to ice the kicker and it backfired. Sucks to be you Pete...go home!

Peyton
The two situations aren't remotely similar. Pete is reaching pretty bad on that one.
ballfan
A practice kick? Oh, sorry, Seattle won, that was something the ref told Pete before the game. Dumb, just dumb.
fuego
That's not the definition of a practice kick. All kickers follow though with the kick on an 'icing' TO. What the Ravens' kicker did yesterday was a practice kick. Now that shouldn't be allowed.
freefall
It's stupid to ask the ref not to let a kicker go through the motion and kick it anyway. What if Bryant tried to stop the kick and pull a hammy or twisted an ankle?

lee sunset
The two situations aren't remotely similar. Pete is reaching pretty bad on that one.Exactly. I said to myself "that's not going to happen again" when Tucker trotted on the field during the timeout and took a practice kick. If I remember correctly didn't the Ravens run another play or two before Tucker came back out?The Harbaugh bros have got cajones...

JulioHOFer
Did Carrol talk about how his team wouldn't even have the chance to lose that game if replacement referees only in because the owners are some stingy penny pinchers declared a touchdown for his team on a pass that was clearly intercepted? Denver should have had one of their players go sit down on the field right where he was taking the practice kick so that he couldn't do it.Gotta watch those Harbaugh's though, they will stretch & break every rule they can get away with. HolyMoses
I've wondered if the snap came too long after the time out, if the Bryant could be called for delay of game.Pete can wonder about that all off season.
rightsaidfred
I've wondered if the snap came too long after the time out, if the Bryant could be called for delay of game.Pete can wonder about that all off season.Hmmm - I think the "practice" kick was what was referred to in an earlier post here. The running onto the field during a time out and taking a shot. What Bryant did was marginal. You could make the case that he should be allowed to follow through on the kick to avoid any type of injury. But Carroll's TO was not a last second one, and I think they did have time to NOT snap the ball. But as to delay of game - it was a 30 sec. TO - Byrant's kick didn't last 30 sec, so I don't see that applying. JMO
gathroughnthrough
Yea Tucker's was way worse yesterday. If the officials dont know what the penalty will be for doing what Bryant did its because there isn't one. Pete's a crybaby.

How is a kicker allowed a practice kick during a timeout when they weren't even lined up for a kick? Bryant was already out there and you can argue the center didn't hear the whistle. What the Ravens did was cheap.
