Walt Hartwell White
We won. Let's move on. I got crazy before we came back so not critizing. But we won.
New Hope Eagle
i would think because in case of a bad snap. line up and spike and get second attempt.

Dirty_Bird89
i would think because in case of a bad snap. line up and spike and get second attempt.This. Gives you a chance to kill the play and go again. Probably don't need 13 seconds though
Falconsfan567
He probably thought like I was that we would run another play to get out of bounds and try to get a few more yards. But apparently someone told him to go ahead and kick the field goal.
vel
I think he panicked. Honestly. We had time to run the ball one more time even and spike it.
nevesmetro
The only thing I can think of is it left open the option of a sideline pass to get us closer if we wanted to take a shot???? If he was 100% FG before calling TO then it was a slight mistake. We won and I'm still dancing (badly) Edited January 13, 2013 by nevesmetro

falconstwopercentsized
Not enough mistakes to lose. **** off falcons winning the superbowl. Coppernickle done.
falconsd56
It would have been hard to get everything set for a spike if the throw was not right on the sideline. He made the right call.
MilleniumFalcon
He wanted them to spike it and have another play and save the TO for the play after, but in the heat of the moment he called timeout.
Ergo Proxy
Most likely a time management mistake.HOWEVER: Might have considered another pass to get more yards to a sideline route.

freefall
He probably thought like I was that we would run another play to get out of bounds and try to get a few more yards. But apparently someone told him to go ahead and kick the field goal. That's what I am guessing as well. Also not sure if preventing a 10 sec runoff situation might have anything to do with it also or not. In any case kicking off to a team with 8 sec left is should not lose you the game. I actually had more issue with Bosher executing the squib kick than what Smith did.
falcons007
What are you complaining about? MS might have had his own reasons and he is one the best coaches to manage clock under 30 seconds. Time out was taken immediately so may be they thought they could run a play but in the end thought it was too risky.
gtjackets1729
Is it really that hard to figure out? You would have been cursing him for not running another play to get closer had Bryant missed. He probably declared it too risky after further thought during the timeout.
pzummo
If the snap was bobbled, the holder could throw it away and they'd get a second shot at it. And 13 seconds is necessary because a bobbled snap results in the holder running wide before throwing. That can take several seconds. Bird of a Feather
You have to err on the side of caution here. If things go south, you can't get those seconds back.
Ergo Proxy
Yeah, I'm sure seeing 0:03 on the board isn't as 'dramatic' as seeing 0:13. In a sense. Good decision. Worst part of the end coaching wise? The communication fail to the kickoff following the FG. Somehow the Kicker chose to do the last thing we wanted(coaches wanted) basically.
