More From ESPN.comDave Caldwell's first task as Jacksonville Jaguars GM is to decide whether to keep coach Mike Mularkey, writes Paul Kuharsky. BlogDespite the fact that the two men worked together in Atlanta, Caldwell is thought to prefer a new head coach such as 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman or Falcons defensive coordinator Mike Nolan, according to sources. The Jaguars gave their assistant coaches permission last week to look for other jobs.In the 51-year-old Mularkeys first season, the Jaguars finished 2-14 in 2012, the worst record in franchise history.Jacksonville lost eight games by 16 points or more this season. Not even Jacksonville's inaugural team in 1995 -- a group comprised of mostly rookies and street free agents -- was overmatched as often. Coach Tom Coughlin's rag-tag bunch finished 4-12 back then, losing four games by at least 16 points. The 4-12 record had been the worst in franchise history.Mularkey, who also has coached the Bills, has a 16-32 career record. Information from The Associated Press was used in this report. bossFALCON™
Only way Nolan takes that job is if they give him Belichick $$$. Their secondary sucks, as well as their pass rush. There is nothing special about their offense either. Blackmon and Shorts are good, but aside from that they have nothing. MJD is aging and in the final year of his deal. The only two jobs I can see Nolan taking are the Eagles possibly or Chargers (although they're not rumored to be interested in him)

B3TD
Man, we already got the 2 good coaches out of Jacksonville, can we stop swapping with them already!
RYNE
yuck..... Nolan surely wouldn't want to dive into that mess I hope.
BadMoonRising
They need to bring in an offensive finesse guy. They should go get June Jones and leave Nolan here with the big boys.

Sui_Generis
If it's a defensive guy with an Atlanta connection they are looking for, then he needs to go for Zimmer. Seriously, why hasn't this guy had any interviews?

I love Julio
Yep! Caldwell and Jerry Jones both need to stay away from Nolan! We seriously need to get Nolan locked in with the Falcons!
Ethos
Falcons D is 5th in PPG allowed while going up against (10th) ranked strength of offensive opponents. Blank and TD better bring out the gotd@mn paycheck.
rightsaidfred
Rod Ryan is also available......Rob Ryan in all his arrogance said he'd only be out of work "for like 5 minutes". Last season he said he's a better coach than Rex. While that may actually be true, I still think he's an over rated d-bag.
Finally
Nolan would be stupid to go there. I don't see Nolan leaving this soon. If he did it would make 5 different teams in 5 years. That is tough sledding.

Bill Brasky
I can't see why a team would give up on a HC after one season with no quarterback and the best player is hurt for most of it. Then again, I can't see why a team with no QB would draft a punter in the third round (ahead of Russell Wilson incidentally) so who knows. JACKSONVILLE! natod12
not sure why people would think he is stupid to go there. he has a prior relationship with the gm, the expectations are **** near nothing 2-14, 4-12 would make him look like a hero. 1 good draft and he could make the D formidable. The O has mjd, shorts looks pretty good and blackmon turned on when he had a quasi decent qb throwing him the ball. i hope he doesnt leave but whats so stupid about him if he leaves? Brehus
It's dumb to take the Jags HC job they expect a coach to be successful the first year without any good players. The talent is so bad there that it had half the people in Atl convinced that Kotter was the worse OC in football before coming hereSeriously giving MM only one year with that talent not even giving him a chance to get better talent on the team and see what he can do.I am glad MM is gone from the Falcons, but seriously WTH is with the Jags Edited January 9, 2013 by Brehus
