The 38-year-old Longwell beat out several kickers during a tryout on Tuesday, including 13-year veteran Neil Rackers. The Seahawks were in need of a kicker after regular starter Steven Hauschka injured his calf in Seattle's 24-14 wild-card win over Washington. Coach Pete Carroll briefly addressed Hauschka's injury during his press conference Monday, "We don't know how significant it is," Carroll said. "He feels better than he did [sunday]."If Hauchka can't go when the Seahawks play at Atlanta on Sunday, Longwell will see his first action in more than 12 months.Longwell hasn't kicked in the NFL since scoring seven points for the Vikings in Minnesota's 2011 regular-season finale. The 15-year veteran hasn't kicked in a playoff game since January 2010, when he hit four extra points in Minnesota's 31-28 NFC Championship loss to New Orleans. Before playing with the Vikings, Longwell spent nine seasons with Green Bay. Longwell's 1,054 points with the Packers is the most in franchise history.
