Report: Seahawks' Clemons Has Torn Acl

Recommended Posts

Tests on the left knee of Chris Clemons confirmed the Seattle Seahawks' defensive end suffered a torn ACL in Sunday's victory against the Washington Redskins, according to ESPN.com, citing a source close to the player.

Clemons leads the Seahawks with 11.5 sacks, and his absence likely will mean first-round pick Bruce Irvin will move from the left side to the right side on passing downs. However, Irvin a situational pass rusher at this stage.

Greg Suggs, a rookie out of Louisville, would also see increased snaps in Clemons' absence. He was active for 11 games during the regular season, recording six tackles and a pair of sacks.

"It's a shame," Clemons' agent, Donal Henderson, told NFL.com on Sunday. "He's worked so hard to get there."

Henderson believes the conditions at FedEx Field contributed to the injury. Clemons was wearing 3/4-inch cleats to get traction on the slippery surface.

If Clemons indeed tore his ACL, he would undergo surgery and likely be sidelined until at least the beginning of next season.

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said the team will also consider bringing in kickers for tryouts this week in case Steve Hauschka is unable to play at the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday due to a strained left calf.

I know they've got other guys but if the Seahawks don't get consistent pressure on Matt Sunday we win this game and we probably win big.

Seattle hasn't lost a game by more than 7 points this year. In fairness, Clemons hasn't missed a game either. Mind you, those games include games against some potent offenses as well.

This is a huge loss for us.

You should be able to abuse Bruce Irvin in the run game. He is undersized and was selected predominantly to play the LEO spot in our defense. I assume Pete Carroll will go with one of our backups like Greg Scruggs to avoid that.

Chris Clemons was a beast and there is no way he can be replaced. This is really a huge win for Matt Ryan.
