At long last, the Atlanta Falcons have scored a postseason victory. It came off the field.

Alex Marvez reports that offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter has elected to pass on chances to become a head coach and remain with the Falcons. Koetter reportedly signed a contract extension that will keep him with the Falcons through 2014 and part of the agreement is that Koetter will not leave this year for a job as a head coach.

Koetter was drawing interest for the head-coaching vacancies with the Chiefs, Browns and Eagles. But all three of those jobs would require major building projects.

Koetter might be far better off staying with Atlanta, where he can work with a nucleus that includes quarterback Matt Ryan and receivers Julio Jones and Roddy White.

Atlanta defensive coordinator Mike Nolan and special-teams coordinator Keith Armstrong also are receiving interest for head-coaching positions.
