BirdWeisErrr_2
What did Coach Smith think he could possibly gain today?Best case scenario:All of our players stay injury free and we win in a dominating fashion. We go into the playoffs riding high.Worst case scenario:We suffer injuries to key players and we lose a game we should win and go into the playoffs with our heads down.If we do not play our stars it really doesn't matter who wins the game. If we win, great. If we lose, big deal, our stars didn't play.If we play our stars and suffer injuries to key players it's a complete disaster!Coach Smith has payed conservative all year and the one time he needs to play conservative he gets crazy. This is the absolute worst thing that could have happened to us today. This **** has to stop. I do not care what our record is, I expect more sound logic than what we have seen this year.

BirdWeisErrr_2
I changed the title and didn't change the common sense part. Common sense was nowhere to be found on the Falcons sidelines today.
falcndave
Thanks for your opinion. We've had little success when we rested them. Welcome to the ranks of hindsight prophet.
BirdWeisErrr_2
Thanks for your opinion. We've had little success when we rested them. Welcome to the ranks of hindsight prophet. It's not hindsight. The safest (most conservative) approach would have been to rest the stars. In hindsight, the worst possible scenario happened. We lost players and the game and didn't look good losing.
falcons007
Thanks for your opinion. We've had little success when we rested them. Welcome to the ranks of hindsight prophet. This is not true. We got one and done after playing starters. They should have been rested key starters and not let them play at all.
Falcanuck
"Ignorant" isn't a very good word to describe it. Irresponsible, maybe.

You were probally one calling for Smith to start them to keep momentum...now you want to *itch about it. Exactly. The Packers and the Giants went in the playoffs playing starters in there superbowl years because they were wild card teams but still. I have no issue with him wanting to keep momentum going especially for the offense. That o line got worked though today and let Ryan get hit a few times. Konz got destroyed on that Bowers sack. Ergo Proxy
It's not hindsight. The safest (most conservative) approach would have been to rest the stars. In hindsight, the worst possible scenario happened. We lost players and the game and didn't look good losing.Which is EXACTLY the mentality Atlanta has been diseased with.It is precisely the problem with the Falcons.Playing it safe and conservative, to a fault.Atlanta has a lot to gain from playing it's starters today. AND I say that without any bearing on Mike Smith at all or anything to do with 'the decision' itself. The decision to 'play to win' today, was one to fight the bigger challenge this team has: Psychological. Ergo Proxy
OMG...this is the NFL.You girls may be scared but those guys aren't...let em play!!Only thing to fear is fear itself.Even that? Can't be afraid. Got to be disgusted with yourself at the thought of being afraid to play a team and ask why you're even on the field if you don't want to play to win.Falcons have momentum entering the playoffs. Their team had a 'prep game' today and it wasn't the outcome they wanted, but it was a good choice to go for it.Since, their problems are of a psychological nature this year.Injuries are a different subject and context. The OBJECTIVE to win isn't about W/L record in today's game(vs Bucs). It was about facing another trap game, and they got caught early on.
