If this happened in the first half, I wouldn't put blame on anyone. It happened in the 4th quarter of a meaningless game we were losing by 12 points. Absolutely inexcusable to have Abraham in this game at that point. Every key player should have been out by then, but they are still in even with Abe hurt. If this costs us our first playoff game, I'd be 100% fine with Mike Smith being fired and I think he's the best coach we've ever had.

This right here. No way can Arthur Blank accept any explanation for it. There is none. None at all.

Cannot believe that he risked his starters health on a meaningless game.

And for the fans, don't even bother criticizing him because it was you who wanted us to "blow them out and start our starters to maintain momentum" which is definitely the worst idea I've heard.

I never wanted that, I wanted to play them through the first half, pull them after that regardless. Anything after that was bulls***.

Stfu you bunch of whiny a$$ pu$$ies. Do you even know what the injury is yet? I'm at the game so was hoping for some info, not a bunch of whiny mf'ers talking when they don't know shut yet

Usually when you can't walk off the field on your own and they cart you off into the locker room, it's a little serious.

As I said in the chat I luv the guy but sometimes he seems like a Chimpanzee in a Smitty suit with some of the sophomoric decisions he's made over the years.

The apoplectic fanbase is going to come unhinged over the next 2 weeks speculating the end of the world as we wait to see if Abe plays.

I suppose after the Mayan prophecy didnt pan out they have to have something to worry about.

God i dread the next 2 weeks...constant complaining, constant doom and gloom, and never ending trash talking of our team. I'm mad as **** about abe and how we played today but it will be impossible to visit this board until our playoff game.

If Abe cannot play Smith is going to hear about this decision to play the vets bigtime. Media

is already feasting on this....wait for it, going to be a tidal wave of beat downs coming to Smitty, he deserves it imo.

Yeah, they fox group couldn't understand it either. It seems that no matter how well we do in the regular season, we simply have some bad coaching decisions and playing come playoff time. i don't understand it. At least the stinking giants are now eliminated from the playoffs.

John Abraham shouldn't have even been dressed today. Today was just a gigantic fail by Mike Smith in every way. The team played like sh*t and loss with their starters in the entire game, and he got the only pass rusher hurt bad.

Just terrible. Terrible. Terrible. It's the first time in 5 years I have ever been pizzed off at Mike Smith.

from pat y...pretty much nailed it.

Why bother? I still don’t get the decision by Atlanta coach Mike Smith to play almost all of his starters in a game that didn’t matter. There was nothing to be gained and plenty was risked and that could end up haunting the Falcons. Cornerback Dunta Robinson left the game with a head injury and didn’t return. Veteran cornerback Asante Samuel also appeared to aggravate a shoulder injury that’s been bothering him for weeks, but he did return. Defensive end John Abraham, who never should have been on the field so long, suffered what appeared to be an ankle injury in the fourth quarter and was carted off the field. The Falcons could have gotten the same outcome – and no injuries to their starters – if they had started their backups. If Robinson, Samuel and Abraham aren’t healthy for the playoffs, Smith’s decision to play them is going to draw lots of criticism.

Yeah that's what my fear was...I mean I understand you want to try to stay sharp but it's just not worth the risk of losing a key player. He played all the starters and they played like $hit anyway. I don't mind the loss at all big deal, but now you may not have Abe for the playoffs. This could possible be an incredible disaster
