The problem is that even if the defense isnt expecting it, it doesnt matter, because any linebacker in the nfl will make up ground on Turner because turner is as we all know..slow. so either way its a dumb play. at least up the middle he gains 1 yd...tosses are a 3 yard loss.

That play was the reason Roddy got an easy TD on the screen pass. Falcons faked a toss up on the right side and DET defenders moved to defend it, Ryan threw the screen to Roddy with TG blocking one guy and Sam Baker knocking off another defender. A play doesn't need to work all the time but the defense still has to defend it. Don't scrap the play just because it doesn't work once or twice because of execution, can't go with MM type of offense.

I was thinking the same thing but, would it have worked if Turner was in the backfield? Gruden said it worked so well because the play is always ran by tossing it to Quizz. I think if Turner is in the backfield the D wouldn't have over pursued as much.

It would probably work with either Quizz or Turner. Quizz was stuffed on those toss plays more because the teams are expecting the ball to Quizz in open space. The defenders didn't run all the way right but just took a step or two which was good enough for Roddy to go all the away.
