NCFalcon52
Didn't the packers win a Super Bowl with no running game less than 2 years ago? If passing is working then why do we need to run as good as others to win in the playoffs? If we're better at scoring points who cares if we run the ball! Georgiaboy04
I was thinking the same thing. I just hope we win so people can eat it

TorontoFalcons
From what I remember, the packers run game started to get rolling right around that time. Another random example was when the Colts had an awful defense particularly their run defense. But they turned it on all of a sudden and won the super bowl too. Flip Flop
It is a legitimate criticism. If the Falcons had proven that they can win in the playoffs without a running game then we could point to that as a counter. When you need one yard, running the ball becomes very important. When you need to protect a lead in the 4th quarter, running the ball is important.
FalconsAboveBoard
You need a running game. . . . miraculously, the Packers found theirs sometime during the playoffs that season along with a defense good enough to help them. The Falcons must improve the offensive rushing. . . Edited December 23, 2012 by Falcon Knight

If we're better at scoring points who cares if we run the ball!Actually the Packers did run the ball well in that playoffs. A guy came off the practice squad and had like 2 or 3 100+ yard games. He was effective enough for the passing to flourish. You don't need to be Barry Sanders back there but you MUST be able to run the ball in order to set up those pass plays. Miller2Rison
i think we can be effective running the ball still
Kilgore Trout
The Packers had no regular season running game. James Starks went nuts in the playoffs.
NCFalcon52
I agree that it is good to run better, however I think the screen passes have substituted some of our run plays. I don't think we have to run over 100 yards if we're passing like we did tonight and against the giants. We can win Super Bowl this season! Falconsfan567
Because we saw what the Lions DL was doing to our OL when we got to passing too much.

paulitik
It is a concern, but the Giants were struggling with it last year, and the Packers the year before. Granted, our screen game has kind of made up a little for it. IF our D can keep getting turnovers we should be okay.

g-dawg
Because we saw what the Lions DL was doing to our OL when we got to passing too much.bingo......when Falcons cannot run and we are one-dimensional, then McClure/Konz get eaten up even worse on the pass rush. Matt is a dayum good QB, but he needs good protection moreso than Aaron Murray or RGIII due to his escapability limitations.Falcons need a running game because Mike Smith does not have the stomach for throwing on first down on a consistent basis. Leland
We need to start doing more screen passes to make up for our lack of a run game, when the 49ers of the 80s lacked a run game they didn't force the ball to the RBs they just threw screens instead. falcons007
Don't run the ball for balance sake, Quick screens and draw plays can slow down the pass rush. The tosses to MT was not very effective but the RW screen TD was a fake toss to the RB on the right and the screen went left to RW who scored TD. As long as run game can get those tough short yards it would probably be enough.
Falc_Fan_Since_Six
You need at least a functional running game. If you don't have it, you're just like the Lions..... great receiver but 4 wins.
