Guest Gritz
This is the REAL reason the offense is struggling. It's disturbing too. We went from the second best offense in the league on 3rd down to Mayne the worst. Real fast.yeah, it's like our Lamborghini offense has morphed into a '93 Yugo before our eyes. PokerSteve
and the worst in the playoffs, the games that matter and terrible against the above five hundred teams too, nice job beating up on the jr varsity teams yes, against the greats, hes below average^^ Exactly. You don't get Lombardi trophies for beating up the bottom-feeder teams in the regular season. In the high-stakes match-ups of the play-offs Mike Smith's teams look like little lost sheep completely encircled by ravenous wolves. vel
Peyton look at the Pats. Their defense sucked early in the year. Belichick has played every player on that roster it seems to get it together. Trevor Scott and Rob Ninkovich are not better than Mass and Sid/Matthews, but they get enough playing time in situations that their skillset allows them to win in those situations. Tavon Wilson is sitting on the bench with 4 INTs. Patrick Chung was benched for McCourty because he didn't have the range. Belichick wants results. Smitty is too concerned with being loyal to the player. Turner and McClure immediately come to mind. I bet you he would never consider sliding Clabo in to RG and putting Holmes outside this summer. Know why? Because he's more concerned about Clabo's feelings than fixing the RG spot. Same with the center position. Too afraid to sit a long term player. Too scared to ruffle feathers. He's very reactionary.

vel
We struggle to stop the run. Why not get up 14-0 and make the other team one dimensional? We do this, but Smitty then turns it down to run the clock out. He struggles with this, mostly because it's worked though.

Sui_Generis
yeah, it's like our Lamborghini offense has morphed into a '93 Yugo before our eyes.Haha! Exactly! Lamborghini engine in a Yugo frame. If you get in a wreck in a Yugo, they just add an NE to the end. Because You gone!Sorry, corny joke moment. Had to break the tension. vel
Cutting a high priced Ray Edwards in the middle of an 11-2 season contradicts all of that.He cut Ray because he was disrespectful. Read the last two sentences of that quote:"Too scared to ruffle feathers. He's very reactionary."Ray sucked. But he was going to be a Falcon for the entire season if he was obedient and had a good attitude. Tell me he wasn't. Had Ray gotten up in the huddle and Blank and TD weren't there, #93 is still a Falcon.
fuego
Cutting a high priced Ray Edwards in the middle of an 11-2 season contradicts all of that. That was an insubordination issue. And Dimitroff and Blank were in the room when it happened. You can't really say that was Smith.

Falconsfan567
Peyton are you watching the MNF game? They just put a stat up that the Patriots run 1 offensive play ever 25 seconds. That's the fastest pace in the NFL. Mike Smith would have a dam heart attack if the Falcons were to ever get to that kind of pace on a consistent basis. That's one of the ways Mike Smith is conservative. Also getting a lead by 3 or 10 points and then just sitting on it is the most conservative thing he does. Sure the Falcons have a great record in those games but if it wouldn't be nearly that good if it weren't for all the Matt Ryan miracle comebacks. Matt Ryan makes the Falcons record look a lot better than it would be with the way Smitty calls a game with the lead.

vel
I'm just waiting on the day that Matt throws to Julio or Roddy wide open while they are wide open like Brady did to Hernandez. It's easy money that Matt leaves on the field constantly. Also, falconsfan567, we ran the offense at that pace to open the Saints game and gunned it down once we got up of course. The Patriots do it the whole game. Also because of the way the Patriots play they just forced the Texans to go for it on 4th down and 8 from the 33 instead of kicking a field goal. paulitik
I would argue he's more timid than conservative. When we takes risks, like going for it on 4th down its more about being afraid of Drew Brees getting the ball than sticking it to the opponent. He's more concerned with the clock than the score, playing the probabilities and sticking to the process than domination. He lacks the killer instinct that makes Belichick great. He holds back young talent, plays it safe with the established guys. I honestly think he coaches scared.

Smitty's biggest flaw in my opinion. Also, have you seen Ridley since he fumbled? Their leading rusher is on the bench because he fumbled. Demanding the best out of his roster. vel
I agree Paulitik, it's like he is more scared of losing than he is hungry for winning. It is not a "win at all costs" mentality with him.

A good coach, but certainly not the genius he is considered to be with Brady.
