Smitty reminds me of Bobby Cox: He can get it done in the regular season but the way he coaches leads to playoff collapses and will be kept around because he's associated with the success of a previous inept team. I really, really hope he proves me wrong, but the increasingly vanilla nature of the offense, namely the lack of the no huddle, in recent weeks leads me to believe he hasn't figured it out and wants to be as conservative as possible when it really matters. Like I said, I really want him to prove me wrong but I'm not holding my breath. This season is following the trends of previous ones and the predominant link is him.

Yup, there's a parallel between Falcons & Braves. Before Bobby Cox in the 90's, Braves fans just wanted winning seasons (Falcons fan same way before 2008). Then Braves went on a run of like 4-5 straight division championships but kept failing in the playoffs (Falcons similar story in playoffs). Braves fans want more, just winning the division won't cut it anymore and they want a ring (Falcons fans now). Braves finally broke through in 1995 but disappointed again after that, hopefully Falcons can break through this year but flip the script and continue to win Lombardi trophies.

Yea, well, go ahead and chitcan him, what gaurantee you got whoever we get next is going to deliver us a boatload of playoff wins ?...change for change sake, yea I get it ......

I'd rather just suck with 1-16 records than get excited with 13-3 regular seasons only to CONTINUE losing playoff games. At least we get good draft selections. #kanyeshrug

I think there are a lot of people that feel this way now....but they'd change their tune quick if we went back to the old days of sucking every year.

And obviously....the league doesn't let you play a 17 game if you only win 1 of the first 16. But it's good that we've made the playoffs so frequently that people do not realize that.

Yeah let's just play to be the reg season champs ! Maybe if we all got a petition together and mailed it to Roger up in the NFL big house he would come out with a new trophy for us the reg season champs.. Who knows he might name it after the falcons .

Numbers hum ok let's talk numbers how many post season games has Smitty won zero zilch nota . We shall see but if he continues to come out and play passive football like history has shown from him then I expect unlike him the same results . Hope I'm wrong but we shall see .

And it's quite evident that with our good records and horrible playoff appearances we've actually missed out on opportunities to grab IMPACT players early in drafts. We sure as **** need IMPACT players on this O-Line and D-Line.. that's for D*MN sure.

I agree...best thing to do is tank the next 5 years and get those high draft picks, tear this mofo down and build it again .....sucking is good, blowing even better......yep, that's the ticket....

LOL.. yeah my mathematics weren't on point. I've been a fan for 18 years man and I know we're definitely a more successful team nowadays but there comes a point where the only thing that matter is getting a Superbowl. I refuse to be complacent with a GOOD LOOKING record...

Smith will FOREVER have my respect and gratitude for helping make the Falcons a team we can be proud of, instead of the mess we were left with after Vick and Mora.

That said, either he'll get the franchise over the playoff hump, or he'll get the Tony Dungy in Tampa Bay treatment. Sometimes changes have to be made even when the coach is great and the team is great.

Giants fans were calling for Tom Coughlin's head in 2007, he won the Super Bowl. They shut up. By 2011 they were calling for his head again. Probably would've gotten it, but what do you know, he wins the Super Bowl again. Did he change anything along the way. No. But if they'd missed the playoffs last year as they nearly did at 9-7, he could very well be unemployed now instead of defending SB Champ coach. Timing . . .

John Gruden; Andy Ried; Josh Mcdaniels

I respect your opinion but...

Josh Mcdaniels= he11 no, this the same guy that tried to tell our MN how to run his defense.

Andy Ried= he11 no...this guy is an emotional wreck, they probably should have given him a leave of abscense for a year...poor guy

John Gruden= maybe

Sean Payton= yes please

Listen this was the falcons year to make a statement . We have players retiring after the season we have players with contracts coming up with Big cap numbers tied to them it's going to be a off season of major importance with lots of question marks to be answered and the NFCS is very competitive and I feel this was our make or break year and if we blow it could be years of wasted opportunity .

It's good to see that some are ok with being paper champions . I can respect that . but why settle for mediocrity ? when you could have the Lombardi ! 16 - 0 doesn't mean squat if you don't win it all .and second place is the first looser . I bet Dan Marino would trade all of those paper championships for a Lombardi in a heart beat.

The one number that counts and says who you are as a team is how many Super Bowls you have and until you can say you have one. the bragging and boasting about the regular Swanson e- relevant numbers mean squat .
