It should only be legalized if you want to reduce usage and violence around it. History shows that prohibition does nothing to reduce usage, and only drives up the price, and criminality around it. In fact, the entire War on Drugs needs to end. It's a war on individuals, and criminalizes a behavior that should be treated as a mental health issue. Criminalizing drug related behavior reduces the likelihood that treatment for addiction is sought because of prosecution.
The U.S. should follow the Portugal model.
