"playoff Performers"

Recommended Posts

you always hear the phrase "playoff performer" thrown around in sports. people say that some guys are "clutch" and "big time" and "playoff performers" and that other guys are not. these other guys are "chokers". NEWSFLASH: THESE BIGTIME PERFORMANCES WOULDVE HAPPEND, PLAYOFFS OR NOT. the idea that a guy suddenly raises his game because its the playoffs is just a ridiculous idea. likewise, the idea that a guy that usually performs well just suddenly cant perform at his typical level because its a playoff game is also ridiculous. the idea that someone can win as many games in the regular season as Matt Ryan but just not be able to win in the playoffs is ridiculous. you take a sample size of roughly 70 games that Matt has played in and throw it out the window for a sample size of 3. If Matt wouldve started his regular season career 0-3, no one wouldve said Matt will never win a regular season game or that he doesnt "have what it takes" to do so. we need to treat his postseason career the same. football is football. the game itself doesnt just change because its the playoffs.

Agreed. Last time I checked, they played the same game by the exact same rules in the post season.

We are 54-21 since 2008. For that reason alone, this team deserves respect. SF and Houston have 1 good season in 5 years and they get a ton of respect off the media off the back of it, yet we get disrespect and 1001 excuses for why we win.

I agree but the level of intensity in playoffs is higher. The coaching staff should do a better job of preparing the guys and come with a good plan. One thing Giants and Packers player said after the games was how they knew what Falcons were going to do and there was nothing new.

once you start playing the game the intensity level doesnt even matter. us having nothing new has nothing to do with intensity or the fact that it was a playoff game. same thing couldve happend in the regular season

and what plays inparticular are you refering to as ones that they knew were coming?

Watch the all 22 of the Giants and packers game. Their defense knew our WR routes better than our own Offensive players. And Guys like BJ Raji and Justin Tuck said the same on how they knew what was coming and how ready they were. Packers,Arizona and Giants all elevated their play compared to regular season when they struggled to win the games.

and again, what did the intensity of the game have to do with any of this? what did these being playoff games have anything to do with the occurences? your getting more into playcall predictablity, which 2 new coordinators havent shown signs of.

Falcons came out flat against Giants last year. Arizona was probably the best playoff game and the first half of GB was good before the pick 6. Can't come out flat like last year which many said was because of MM. DK should do a good job this year with preparing the players.

but what did the intersity or coming out flat have to do with what you said about the other teams knowing our plays? and as far as coming out flat, i agree with you that we came out flat last season, not so much in the either two, but we can come out flat in the playoffs and the regular season. thats the whole point of this thread, that there is really no difference between a playoff game and a regular season game.
