Bill Brasky
It's obvious the Falcons need new team doctors. This is the greatest armchair prognostication ever. Kudos, Peyton.

TheFatboi
It's obvious the Falcons need new team doctors. Why?? It's not season threatening. He gave it a go and took himself out. Do you know how many injuries guys actually play thru that they may not even tell a trainer or doctor?? Guys know what they can take and not take. Some guys have a low threshold and some high. His is high. The team doctors have not cost a guy the season by clearing him to play and there is protocol on injuries league wide. Because you don't agree with HIS decision to play doesn't mean the docs are slipping. I'm sure if the docs said he's a no go then Smitty would have made him a no go. They told him he could play but it's up to him to go or sit. He chose to go. Gotta respect that!! Heart and Grit!! And it spreads.

FinalScore2.0
Rest Asante until he's healthy. He needs to be ready for the playoffs.

It took exactly one play to happen. It was obvious from last week that he couldn't be ready in 3 days. I respect that he is a warrior, but I can't believe the coaching staff and training staff on the team are so obtuse to something so obvious. Falcons_own_nfc_south
Did anyone see Asante on sideline when Julio caught the ball on 3&8 in the 4th quarter. He was all pumped up Edited November 30, 2012 by falcon_owns_nfc_south
Finally
Him reinjuring himself was an absolute certaintly, and I am amazed the Falcons sent him out there.Link?
muskokas finest ©
I'd say sit him until he is shoulder is healed. If that takes 3 weeks, so be it.What if that 3 weeks comes after the Lions game?
Peyton
Link? Here you goI think it's a mistake for him to play Thursday night. The Falcons are in pretty good shape, and they should rest him for at least this week, rather than running him out there to re-injure himself every week and having him be totally broke d*ck or completely unavailable for the playoffs.http://boards.atlantafalcons.com/topic/3962879-mike-smith-on-asante/page__st__40

Peyton
I didn't see anything there about him reinjuring himself last night.Oh, I guess you missed the game. Finally
Oh, I guess you missed the game. Ok, here is a news story then.http://atlanta.sbnat...falcons-week-13I didn't miss the game but going out there and realizing he wasn't ready doesn't mean further damage was done. This is obviously one of those injuries that falls into the gray area of medical science and they have to rely on the player. His pre-game conditioning probably had him feeling okay but when he actually tried to play it hurt too much to continue. If something were broken, torn, or tearing he would not have been out there. JBourneMurkedU
Yeah but he obviously doesn't have that kind of injury, because he keeps reinjuring himself.I was more meaning structural damage. Guy was already hurt so I wouldn't call it reinjuring yourself, but more of a pain tolerance thing. He tried to deal with the pain and it was obvious after the first play he couldn't deal with the pain so out he goes. I wouldn't be shocked at all to find out our doctors examined leading up to the game and told him look it's going to hurt, it could hurt really bad at times, but you are in no threat of doing any more damage to your arm/shoulder in a structural sense. Like I said give him 2 weeks of rest and see how it responds. Would like him back for the Giants game obviously but if he isn't ready then give him 1 more week. Like the media keeps shoving down our throats the regular season is meaningless, at least it is when they talk about the Falcons so do whatever it takes to have him healthy come playoff time. This team is banged up a little in different aspects so this year if we can hold on I think that first round BYE could serve us very well. I am asking a serious question not being a smart azz here.Is there any doctors on the board that could answer that?

If extending the arm is a problem, in the act of going to the ground, Asante could be putting extra pressure on his wrist/elbow to compensate. Peyton
I think the idea that running Asante out there the last two weeks didn't set back his recovery is seriously silly. Is there someone who really thinks that? I don't even think Mike Smith would make that argument.
The Don™
I will be very surprised to see him play vs. the Panthers. Owens played well yesterday, and if you noticed, they put him on the outside where he seems to be more comfortable. McClain has been a very pleasant surprise and has held the nickel spot down since he took over. We'll be OK without Asante against the Panthers. Have him ready vs. the Giants but more importantly, he's gotta be good to go during the playoffs.

Pain is not always an indicator of further damage or re-damage. I am not ruling out the possibility that he hurt himself last night but I find it improbable or else he would have been in a sling.
