Chris Owens

Important distinction: The nickel CB and the CB covering WRs in the slot don't have to be the same. All nickel corner means is that he's the #3 CB who typically comes onto the field when the offense goes 3 WR. The defense can put that guy wherever they want, of course. He doesn't have to play in the inside. In fact, I suspect when Owens comes onto the field, he'll go to RCB and Robinson will go to the slot. That's the way they've been practicing it for weeks, right? That's also the way we played the end of the Chiefs game once Grimes left.

There are a few ways to view Owens Actions.

Lets first consider the consideration that he did

not instigate this little school yard sissy fight and was

acting in self defense.

That is a good argument and probably one that Goddell will buy into

and only fine him $5k

We can also look at this as an act of False Bravado.

Knowing that his mates were around hime and he had his helmet on,

Little Chrissy Poo lashes out with a fist.

But the most inflamatory explanation is a player becoming unglued.

In any compettitive sport, if your opponent has emotional out burst, he

is pretty much done for the day, Linemen and linebackers excluded.

Remember that we are talking about throwing a punch, not

pushing and shoving.

The analogy of the Hockey Player in the penalty box is perfect.

He's what we call down here as a sh!t starter...

Whole lot of mouth.... but on the field...

It's like that guy that threatens you over the phone and then wants to be your buddy when you see him in person

Chris Owens is a scrub. He should never be allowed to do anything other than play special teams, because he is going to be nothing but a big liability in the secondary.

I hope he proves me wrong this season, but I seriously doubt he will.

I think you're going to be surprised.

I think you're going to be surprised.

The honest truth to this is that Owens needs some consistant playing time.

There is no doubt in my mind that it will take him a few weeks to start ramping up his game.

Grimes was the same way.

He just needed playing time.

So after a few weeks of play if Owens is not showing significant improvment

then we will be forced to take a look at Terrence.

Nolans job is to keep a fire lit under these guys to ramp up.
