Falcons_own_nfc_south
Owens will be on the outside. But I'm not worried about Owens yet because the Broncos WRs are average. Thomas is the best one and I wouldn't even put him top 30. Decker is slow and Stokley is old.may be it's Coach Smith trick to say Owens would play Nickel but he's going to play outside and Drob would inside whenever owens come on the field

He is playing nickel. We probably won't know where in the nickel until Monday
vel
You sure Vel ? I keep hearing he will play nickle/slot corner ....sure hope you are right ......I'm pretty sure. Losing Grimes shouldn't change DRob's role. He practiced their all TC. Asante now slides into the starting lineup and Owens slides into Asante's spot. Falcons_own_nfc_south
Chris Owens is expected to step in as the Falcons' nickel corner.Brent Grimes' season-ending injury will move Dunta Robinson out to right corner, opposite Asante Samuel. Owens, a fringe player and special teamer during his three-plus years in Atlanta, is going to get attacked in three-wide sets. His first test comes against Peyton Manning and the Broncos this week. Based on this info, he would step in as the Falcons nickel corner but could be covering outside or slow receivers who knows.. We would find out in the next few days or MNF
Club212
I have come down hard in the past esp. after the GB playoff game which he was my original "Whipping Boy" ever since claiming that title, I believe he saw/heard the grumbles on hear & has turned his game around in a positive sense. I fell he will do fine! Its our OL on running plays that needs to step up. Looked the same as the NYG playoff game where we couldn't play smash mouth on the shorts. vel
I just want to know other than the Packers and Bengals game did Owens look downright incapable. I don't recall any.
Statick
Being that I don't hold a Madden-esque viewpoint on real life players, let's all hope that he's learned and upped his play from the debacle that was his outing vs Green Bay two years ago. ki46dinah
I think he will once again be abused...but I certainly dont hope thats the case. And seeing how it faired against a Matt Cassel offense, I'm worried about our anemic pass rush against Peyton. kiwifalcon
There are three (3) important keys to defeating the Broncos on Monday night.1). The Falcons must establish their running attack with all of the running backs, but Turner especially must get untracked and cranked up, along with Snelling and Rodgers as additional "battering rams" in the Falcons arsenal of weapons offensively.2). Let Matt Ryan carry this team on his shoulders. He has now established himself as the undisputed leader and field general of the offense.3). On defense, the Falcons must get to Manning by sacking him, disrupting him, and controlling him with a firece pash rush. The defense must gang tackle their running backs. And now that Chris Owens is the starter as the nickle back, he's got to 'straighten up and fly right, step up to the plate and utilize the style of defensive football that Nolan's defensive scheme dictates. The shoes of Brent Grimes must be filled and this game is Owens golden opportunity fly and soar instead crash and burn. Enough said.Agree with this but I think we can't put this on CO23 I think the front 4 on defense have to set the tone and then the rest of the D will follow if this happens like you mentioned CO23 will be fine if they don't and Manning gets comfitable our DB's are in for a long day at the office. Falconcheff
Sheesh. Manning dominated the STEELERS D... with Ike Taylor and Troy Polamalu. He'd dominate if we had Grimes in as well. So this isn't a huge thing this week. This week has ALWAYS been about outgunning the Broncos at home.MANNING IS/WAS ALWAYS GOING TO BEAT OUR D NO MATTER WHO IS IN. OUR O MUST BEAT THEIR D ONE MORE TIME THAN THEY DO TO US. PERIOD.It's about everyone playing well, not about shutting Manning down... not gonna happen. The whole team has to play well to beat a very good football club in the Broncos. Top D, top Offense.Owens mat not fare any worse than Grimes would, or DRob will... he WON'T be the absolute reason we win or lose.idiot coaching might be the determining factor here if we decide to try to force Turner thinking about clock management. As I stated in another threed, the Steelers managed the clock TWICE as long as the Broncos yet still lost. They had the ball all but 36 seconds of the third quarter and still got outscored in that quarter.Clock management is not the key to winning this game. Scoring as much and as often as we can is the key...

PokerSteve
The Pass Rush is going to have to be at the top of their game come Monday.I agree. If the Falcons are going to win this game, Manning must go down. He must go down hard and he must go down more than once or twice.
Quarterback
Owens went to rcb with dunta at the slot against kcThis is what I hope happens Monday night. I really like Owens speed on the outside and Robinson's physicality inside. Owens is clearly our fastest DB, so hopefully now in his 4th season he can at least be an adequate replacement for Grimes.I know he had a tough--make that horrific--time against Green Bay, but I'm pulling for what appears to be a really nice guy. After such a nightmare, it would truly be a great story if he does a great job for us.

Karst41
Owens??Yall just have no clue about Peyton Manning at all do ya.Well do ya........Punks.Lemme tell ya how this will go down.Peyton will attack Owens dirrectly and in directly. He will also run multiple series of plays over 2 quaters of playthat will set the stage for a burn. There will be 2 td's that will come as a result of direct attacks on OwensThere will be 2 td's that will come from the indirect attacks on Owens. There will be 1 TD from an all out Burn Notice. There will be a TD against the other DB's and another TD from Rushing. That is 42 pointsThe only way for us to counter is to Score 42 points and keep Manning on the freaking bench.Manning has more than enough game film on us and Owens.Best be hoping that some ultra hot chick flashes her ta tas and givesManning a case of whuplash, otherwise if we do not score 45 then itsbuckwheats for us. Well let me hold off on that until I see him play nickel in Nolan's scheme. Edited September 13, 2012 by QuantumFalconz

paulitik
I'm not that worried, and I felt about the same last year about Owens as I did about Baker. If Koetter and Hill can turn around Baker, Owens can be by Nolan. Am I concerned? Yes, Worried, panicked? Absolutely not. I have a feeling the offense will make up for any attrition in the D due to the loss of Grimes.
