Best Way For The Falcons To Make A Statement And Get Respect.

Recommended Posts

Monday Night Football this coming week. There is no bigger story in the NFL right now than Peyton Manning's return and how he led the Broncos in a win over the vaunted Pittsburgh Steelers....

The Falcons have a chance to show case that they are a for real team by going out and beating one of the best QBs to ever play the game. It will be on a national stage while they're the only game on. Every football fan will now how the opportunity to see the Falcons take on a high profile team(not the Chiefs) and a big name QB.

They've laid some real duds against upper echelon teams in the Ryan and Smith era(Pittsburgh, Pats, Giants, and Packers) on the big stage. Here's their chance to make a legit statement in front of the nation.

Speaking of respect, did anyone see the PFT power rankings? Truly awful writing on that hack site. Here's what they said - maybe it will change after we take care of business on Monday:

11. Falcons (1-0; No. 10): The fact that five Internet hacks weren’t sufficiently impressed with Sunday’s performance to keep the Falcons at least where they were before the game underscores the fact that the Falcons won’t get respect until they command it.

The Falcons get plenty of respect. What they don't often get is attention.

Make this a game that everyone spends all week talking about, and they'll get that attention.

Well outside of ESPN, NFL Network, SI and every other non-ATL sports outlet (not counting Bleacher Reports and Pat Y) you're probably right...we get plenty of respect.

ESPN MNF is hyping Atlanta as this juggernaut that Manning must overcome to complete his march to dominance. The attention is on Manning, but the respect is there for the Falcons. SI is saying that opposing defenses will have their hands full with Ryan and Company all season, then they go back to focusing on the flavor of the week. The NFL network is just a bunch of boobs, honestly.

Two ways media will look at this.

1. Matt Ryan will beat the Denver D, not Peyton Manning. OR

2. This really will be Ryan beating Manning because the winner is who wins a shoot out, like RG3 beat Bree's.

I hope we slow down Denver O and overwhelm their D for 4 quarters, but I doubt this will be a defensive standoff.

We win this game then everyone will be talking about us. Everybody will know about guys like Weatherspoon, Nic, and Willy Mo. Matt will start getting looks for MVP. Roddy, Julio, and Tony will just get more hype. HD might get some rep if he plays well. This game will truly set the tone for the season.

Why would we get any more respect than any other team that has yet to win a playoff game? Forget playoffs. . . let's first focus on putting up a competitive fight on the big stage. . . . no better chance than to do that this Monday . . . win or lose. . . just make it competitive and winnable till the game is over. DOnt nobody care about Julio being on our team. We must EARN respect in this league.

If the Birds beat Manning on national TV and John Elway falls down the stairs, we'll have finally gotten the monkey off our back. Dirty Birds win the Superbowl in the Aints' house and bring the Lombardi to Centennial Olympic Park.

That's how it was in my dreams at least cool.png

Some people just automatically assume we will make the playoffs. We need to know we can beat good teams before we get there though.

We'll get our chance. The ducks are in a row, and they are named Manning, Rivers, Newton, RG3, Palmer, Vick, Romo, and Brees. In that order.

Ryan gets his chance to silence everyone over the next 8 games and cement his place among the top QB's.
