Based on these rankings Alex Smith is playing as the second best in the league so far this, That does not mean he is the second best quarterback in the NFL.

depends on the predetermined time period.... if it's 2012, which it has been for this topic, then it varies based on the metric used. if it's forever, then no, Smith isn't better then brees. but that's off topic. We are talking about this year.... fwiw DYAR has Smith as the 7th best qb this year, which is probably more accurate.

Let me ask you a question then. The San Francisco 49ers went 13-3 last year, and thier offense set an NFL record for the lowest number of turnovers ever. Alex Smith threw 5 INTs all season.

Do you think that a rating of being the 7th best QB in the league or being the 19th best QB in the league would be more accurate?

Think Smith wins 13 games without that running game and that defense? Think that QBR shows how much Smith relied on the rest of his team, rather than the other way around.

I think there are stats and their are skills based things you get from watching the game.

Stats say Reggie Bush is a top 3 RB. Right now, I would agree. Watching him play is exciting and he is special as a runner, receiver, and blocking.

Stats say some of the top 5 QB this year are for real. When I watch them play, I see talent and in some cases extremely talent but watching Brees, Rodgers, and guys like that, I still see a major gap with the top level skill-set guys and those who aren't. It's only a matter of time before the top skill-set guys take their place at the throne and some of the others naturally regress and get exposed.

ESPN has worked pretty hard on this total QBR stat and they've pushed it out there pretty aggressively. If they think it's a legitimate stat, why don't they include it on thier own stat page?

I think if you complete more than 3 times as many TDs as INTs, and you lead the league in lowest INT percentage, and you have the 5th lowest INT% in NFL history, then you are probably doing better than the 19th best QB in the league.

I was just joking Tandy...I think most here know he's not 'my boy'...

Vick has struggled the first couple weeks...but improved a bit last week. Still, he found a way in both games to get it done. Something to be said for that. Those were game that the Eagles would have lost in the past.

A quarterback's number one job is to lead the team to a win, not pump his stats. People can say what they want about Vick - but when he has his mind in the game, he always gives you a chance to win.

If you are on the QB statistics - there is a link there. On the main statistics under players - the link is there.

They break out the QBR into the stats - too much information to add to the QB regular stat page - there are regular and extended stats on the QBR page.

The 40+ yard passing was when Ryan and Vick were FALCONS, eagle receivers have nothing to do with it.

Ryan has a better QB rating than Vick as a falcon on 40+ yard passes, that's 40+ yards in the air, and from 10 years of ESPN splits.

You refusing to believe that fact doesn't change anything. It's also another thing you haven't admitted you were wrong about.

Claiming Vick was runner-up for MVP when he didn't get a single vote is not technically wrong, but it was an honor he shared with over 1500 other players.

Ok, I've looked at the highlights of the game where Charlie Batch received the only perfect rating in total QBR in history, and I've decided the stat is even more useless than I thought.

His first pass of the game went straight to Talib for a pick....which should make a QB ineligible for a perfect rating in any system right?

Then, two of his three TDs were bombs thrown into double coverage where his WR just happened to come down with the ball.

Yeah.....I'm done with the QBR lol. I saw Aaron Rodgers play 10 games last year better than that one played by Charlie batch against the Buccaneers.

Vick basically was seen by all as 2nd place, I didn't realize he wasn't till recent notice, this is something most people say, not just myself. You can catch this being said on the radio, ESPN, and what not.

But Charlie Batch played the best game, Jamarcus Russell played the 10th best game, Jeff Garcia played the 17th best game, Shaun Hill played the 25th best game, and Matt Moore played the 27th best game.

Ok....yeah...sounds reasonable.
