My First Topic And Its Not About Matt Ryan Lol

I really think the thing that will get us over the hump is mike nolan being the new DC. I always thought we had a lot of talent on the defensive side of the ball and it was never used right at all. I mean dropping abraham into coverage constantly or rushing three and dropping everyone into coverage basically on every 3rd and long was some idiotic play calling in my opinion.

In all honesty I dont know how much the offense will improve with dirk (bc he has no proven track record) and even though I didnt like some play calls MM made, he was a big reason we won 69 percent of our games the last 4 seasons.

There is one thing I am sure of mike nolan is a 10 pt upgrade at least over porn stache, and called me oldschool, but I think defense wins SBs more than offense even in the modern day NFL. Lets look back, both the steelers and giants have won 2 superbowls in the last 12 yrs, both had good offenses but pretty great defenses. Even when Greenbay and the saints won the big show their seasons, their defenses were right there contributing greatly, with cliff matthews getting sacks and the saints D getting turnovers everywhere.

So I think we will prob win our first playoff game this yr but it wont be bc of the offense so to say but our defense under mike nolan who finally brings out the talent on the defense, bc nolan brings his winning track record and his winning attitude to atlanta!

Yea , definitely excited about Nolan and all the Defense changes.

On a side note. lol , one of those clinically psychotic types will troll this anyway. They can't help it. When one spends 19 hrs a day, 7 days a week on any message board they have issues. It makes it worse that they all obsess over 1 man. It is actually quite scary. I would never let my children around them for sure. It reminds me of John HInckley and his obsession with Jody Foster. One of these quacks is going to wind up trying to kill Oprah or something. Thinking it will make Matt Ryan fall in love with them.

oh and I forgot to add, while I dont thin dunta was ever worth the amount of money he is making period, van gorder played him horribly too by having him off his reciever 10 to 15 yds back when he is a jammer and pressman corner period. While I dont think he was ever worth the amount TD payed him I expect to see a much improved and involved Dunta

That's because Van Gorder was horrible. Pretty simple explanation.

yes I know but what suprises me is that Td and mike smith allowed van gorder to play him like that, I mean he was out of his postion and not used to his strengths. You think smith would have said something especially with dunta making that un godly amount of money he was

Hell, with Van Gorder, the whole freakin' defense was out of position!

We have enough talent in the "D" (with the possible exception of the DLine) to be a top 5 D.

I disagree I look at our d line and think they have more than enough to get the job done, will they be a plug and play d line like the giants and just beast everybody, heck no. do I think we got enough talent and depth to get to the quarterback besides abe if in the right scheme heck yeah.

Van Gorder got us to a 12th ranked defense, and we were always decent on defense.

He was never "horrible" or "bad", he was just average. Nolan is far above that, but that doesn't mean Van Gorder was bad. In fact, it was his defense that kept us in the game so long against NYG.

Yea I can't say he was "bad". I will agree that our defense always seemed to look confused. They were always looking around as if to see they were doing it right. Then by the time they got in place the play had already started putting them a step back. I know a lot can be blamed on the players but only so much. So many Sundays I am watching and wondering wtf is going on.

overal I can say he was bad bc he never made any adjustments, when the oc of green bay and the giants made adjustments van gorder did not at all. The reason the defense looked confused is bc van gorder wanted a read and react defense instead of an instinctual attack defense.

Youre right , there seemed to very few adjustments and like I said at times confusion. I can't say he was "bad" because the success our team had the last 4 years. If our DCoord sucked that horribly the defense wouldn't of survived on talent alone.

All in all , I am glad we got Nolan and thought Pornstache had to go.

ya know how I know van gorder was bad we had two blowouts in hand against the bengals and the seahawks and both games van gorders read and react defense allowed them to get back into games.

the other reason is when we did blitz and a player wiffed on the qb he got scared and stopped calling them, **** I rather blitz and get beat by the qb moving and making throws then dropping 8 in coverage and hoping three d lineman can create pressure, which the couldnt giving the qb 10 seconds to let a wr come open

Boom!!! They don't want to here that though. Van Gorder wasn't as bad as people make him out to be. I'll take the 12 ranked D any day in this league. If we would have had a stronger O-line we would have gotten a lot further last year. Blame Van Gorder all you want but he did what he could.

It's not like he had a Godly roster to work with like Mike Mularkey.

He has an OK (At best) DL, a solid LB core, an OK (at best) DB-core and some alright special package players. That's it. Nothing special, he did what did to work with it but he's no miracle worker, I guess, unlike Nolan.

im sorry not playing to players strengths is not what a good coordinator makes, dropping abe into coverage constantly when he is easily the best rusher we got is dumb, paying a cover press corner millions of dollars to sit 10 to 15 yds back once again not smart. the one thing he could do is stop the run, which would be great if this was highschool ball or the nfl 30 yrs ago.

here is something to ponder if he and his 12 ranked defense was so good why is he still not in the pros. hmmmmmm survey says lol.

As much as people didnt liek some of the play calling MM did there is a reason he is now a head coach in the nfl.

I disagree MM for most of his time with the falcons did not have a great offense. his first yr he had a rookie qb a reciever that couldnt catch a cold (roddy) no TE, a mashed together o line with a rookie Lt, the only year where I thought he had a beast roster was last yr. and even then for the first 6 games I would have graded the oline a D- and im being generous

I agree and some people don't think there is much value in the defense falling apart in the 3rd quarter but too many leads were lost only to find themselves chasing at the end or not giving the offense the ball back to score.
