Jorge Soler, a 20-year-old outfielder from Cuba, is the first big signing of the Theo Epstein era in Chicago. Soler's deal is for nine years and $30 million, according to CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman

The New York Yankees, Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers were among the other teams showing interest in Soler.

Soler, still years away from the big leagues, has not played much over the past year due to residency issues. Soler had to establish residency in Haiti before becoming eligible as a free agent. At 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds, Soler has five-tool potential. He will give a boost to a Cubs farm system that ranked 20th before the season by ESPN's Keith Law.

Had Soler been in last week's MLB draft, Law said he would have been at least a top 10 pick.
