Anatomy Of A Playoff Game

I read over and over again how Matt Ryan alone scored 0 points against the Giants because of his "pathetic" performance. Interesting. The offense as a whole and coaching get the shutout, IMO.

1. It takes a team to win and lose, and nobody on offense played very well, and coaching/playcalling was ****** at best. The defense kept them in the game long enough, so I blame the loss on a lack of offense as opposed to the defense having the major share of blame as in the GB game.

2. The offense was in position 3 times to put points on the board, and on the 6th drive they were moving the ball decently before the half ended. Two incredibly stupid QB sneak calls (and very weak attempts), and a sack later for the 3rd time (in garbage time), and the offense scores 0. Poor coaching and playcalling and overall performance on O.

3. QB sneaks....really? Michael tank Turner is our RB.....how is that play called, TWICE? SMDH.

Let's look at those 3 drives where ATL was in scoring territory.

3rd possession, started at ATL 10. (25 rushing, 41 passing):

Run - 1

Pass - 20

Run - 1

Run - 10

(No huddle begins)

Pass - 5

Run - 3

Pass - 3

Run - 6

Pass - incomplete

Pass - 8

Run - 3

Pass - 5

Run - 1

end 1st period

4th and 1 @ NYG 24 - Really? After the end of 1st quarter with plenty of time to come up with a good play and we call a QB sneak?? We have Michael Frickin' Turner gaining 1,2,3 yards (even 10 once!), and we call a QB sneak? Stupidest play call ever. Props for going for it, I love that, but c'mon man! Lol...

8th possession, started at ATL 21 (13 rushing, 50 passing):

Pass - 21

Pass - incomplete

Pass - 6

Pass - 9

Julio end around - 13

Pass - incomplete

Pass - incomplete

Pass - 14

4th and 1 @ NYG 21 - Really? You have to be ****in shittin me? QB sneak AGAIN??!!! Correction...THIS was the stupidest play call ever. Our coaches outdid themselves here. Only down 10-2 at this point, still in it. This is what you call, and with an EMPTY backfield? Giants scored another TD next possession to go up 17-2, game over.

11th possesion (garbage time), started ATL 21 (0 rushing, 45 passing):

Pass - 7

Pass - 15 yard penalty NYG

Pass - 8

Pass - 16

Pass - 5

Pass - 9

Pass - incomplete

Pass - incomplete

Pass - incomplete

4th and 10 @ NYG 17 - sack.

The 3rd possession could have set a tone. If ATL put some points on the board that could have made things more interesting. The 8th drive was the killer though.

Other possessions:

1st - Run 2, Run -1, 3rd and 9 incomplete

2nd - Pass 3, incomplete, incomplete

4th - Pass 6, run 5, pass 3, run 1, pass 5, 4th and 1 @ NYG 42 punt. If they converted that first 4th and 1 maybe they go for it here too. Could be a game-changer.

5th - sack -8, 2nd and 23 let's go Turner up middle for 2 (LOL!), pass 18, 4th and 3 punt.

6th - Pass inc, pass 10, pass 3, scramble 3, pass 9, 1st and 10 pass inc, end half at ATL 45.

7th - run 2, run 9, run -1, pass inc, pass inc, punt.

9th - pass 4, run 5, run -1, punt.

10th - 3 passes incomplete, punt

The 2nd, 10th, and partially the 7th could be "blamed" on MR.

The 1st, 4th (no confidence in run game), 5th, 9th and partially 7th - a lack of effective rushing.

To mock the douchebags who like to finish their threads this way....

Discuss.

You're right about one thing....we need a better offensive line. At least you were right about one thing.

agree 100%

Get better offensive line talent for Turner and let him run ..You give Turner some gaps he will get through ..

Let Ryan be a game manager and we control the game with our beast of a rb and oline that pushes the pile

All we need for Ryan is to pick up some first downs on 3rd down situations not throw any ints and we should be good to go

we dont need Ryan to be Aaron Rodger or Brees where they carry teams to success..all we need from Ryan is game management skills if we are running it down defense throat with Turner

Nice strategy. We'll see if that works this year, even though we won't run that because Koetter isn't an idiot who would actually rely on a 30 year old "beast of a rb" to carry the team, lol.

I wish our coaching staff was confident enough in our beast to pick up 1 yard in the playoff game. You'd think any RB could pick up one yard, even with a poor OL. Guess not.

he relied on MJD enough ..Im pretty sure Koetter knows his bread and butter in Turner..also that 30 yo rb has higher shelf life

cause he was a backup in SD and carries were limited early in his career

agree..its sad that our tall QB cant get enough push to get 1 yard either on a QB sneak ...so instead lets just get that beast oline

that can get the push on those short yard situations and open up holes for Turner to carry us to playoff success

They were so confident in Turner on the 8th possession, that they didn't even give him the ball. Our only rush in that was drive was Julio.....lol. it was only 10-2 at that point, no "need" to pass, but it was the only thing that was working until poor playcalling shot down those scoring drives.

I was just glad to see us still being able to pass somewhat effectively on the 3 drives we were in scoring position, despite Turner not being able to do anything.

It's not one or the other for me. We have a talented RB and a talented QB/Receivers that can both do damage. With a decent O-Line, the two would complement each other nicely.

I don't think anyone, despite size was getting any push that day. The OL just didn't show up to play, as usual, and it effected our whole offense. If Ryan couldn't even get that push (tall does not equal QB sneak success, gtfo with that mess)idk how the rest of our team was supposed to get one. Not only that, but we didn't even have a RB in the backfield, it was dead obvious we were gonna run a QB sneak , so of course we were gonna get stopped.

Turner:

Snelling 6

15 for 41 yards, 2.7.

Maybe we should have used Quizz and Snelling more because Turner was shut down. Oh wait, that's the OL's fault.

But what's funny is the Giants DL was only getting push on the running plays to shut down our beast, and Matt had all day in the pocket on the passing plays...he just choked. /sarcasm.

how many sacks did Giants have on how many pass attempts and how many pressures..please answer

I have no idea, but that wouldn't come close to telling the whole story anyway..

Are you saying they had no pressure on passing plays and ate sandwiches, but when they thought our beast was getting the ball they decided to play hard?

I'm saying they Giants had push all day, and the running game wasn't working period even with only a 4 man front, so the only option was to call short passing plays and get the ball out quickly or take sacks. Matt did a good job at getting rid of the ball before being plastered.

Maybe Quizz would have been more effective being able to scramble. Turner ran left 7 times, middle 3, right 5, and couldn't do anything in any direction. Our rushing attack was non-existent. Passing got us in scoring position 3 times.

That's because MJD was literally the best player on that team. He always carried that team despite an atrocious OL.

Turner is the man and all, but he's no MJD. MJD is faster, stronger and overall a better running back than Turner ever was and ever will be. Period.

Passing got us in scoring position 3 times.

People seem to forget that we were in scoring position 3 times and could have scored but got shut down on 4th down conversions. Everyone just flat out choked. Edited by ChickenBiscuit

Absolutely, everyone choked. I just wish Turner could have done something but our coaching staff clearly wasn't even confident enough in him to get one yard. Twice.

Seriously, after the first sneak gets stuffed, how do you call that same play again, and this time with an empty backfield. Pathetic. It's not like MR made a great effort on the first one, or the OL got push....it was pathetic all the way around. How do you call that play again? Can our BEAST not even get one yard?

of course it doesnt ...Giants only had 2 sacks and 8 pressures out of 41 drop backs..thats not bad pass protection vs a solid front 4

that shows to me oline did its job in pass blocking but nit its job opening up lanes for Turner ..

unless you think there were holes and Turner was either to fat to get through them or didnt see them ?

So are you saying there was a conspiracy theory by the O-Line against Turner?

I'm saying the Giants DL was getting major push all day, on almost every play. There were very few lanes for Turner so we had to move the ball through the air. With the consistent push the DL was getting, the only way to move the ball was to call short passes allowing MR to make a read and get rid of the ball ASAP, before getting hit or sacked.

Is that not possible in your mind? Please answer.

Not sure why you're stuck on the 2 sacks and 8 pressures as the determining factor that MR had all day back there and just choked. I can remember a couple of plays where MR got happy feet and left the pocket because of phantom pressure, but for the most part he needed to do that, or else take a sack.
