Here Comes Sopa Again

After the largest online protest in history, the Obama administration is still voicing support for SOPA. ...

Just the other day, the administration sent a letter to Congress to demonstrate their support for new internet censorship legislation. Victoria Espinel, Obama's so-called "copyright czar" just said: "We still need legislation for blocking foreign websites." You can

Hi Bob...long time. For the record, Victoria Espinel is not Obama's "copyright czar". She is the U.S. Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator. Espinel was appointed by President Obama and confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve in this position which was created by Congress in the Prioritizing Resources and Organization for Intellectual Property Act of 2008.

The statement you cited is actually her office's first Annual Report which she is required by statute to deliver to Congress. Stop worrying, the evil Obama isn't trying to take away your internet.

Yet....BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Great to see you on here again my friend. That was a copy and paste job, "copyright czar" was their term, not mine, but I do take the threat of this quite a bit more seriously than you do. 70,000 signatures so far, hopefully many more to come.

Hope you're back on a permanent basis.

what's with the repeated use of the term "czar" when it comes to Obama's appointees?

Its for people like Glen beck and Micheal Savage and others to try and make it sound as if he is some unamerican communistic Muslim radical who hangs out with terrorists and made christian preachers.

Never mind they have been in place for 30+ years.

Yea that's it.. the term "czar" was first coined when richard nixon appointed john love as "energy czar" back in 1973, so to denigrate a media outlet for using the term---or for others to do so regarding Obama himself---only serves to show the world that person either cannot operate a google search, or are too lazy to.

the same way its silly for people to act like having a czar started with Obama? Come on Bob, you know the deal. "czar " just sounds communist or socialists so it offends " middle America'

Man, don't tell me thieves may actually have to start paying for music. What a world what a world.

They should pay, but bills like SOPA, PIPA, ACTA, and now CISPA won't solve the problem and will just replace it with a vastly worse problem. Time and time again the RIAA has attempted to destroy new technologies that they perceived as threats to their bottom line and, if they had it their way, we'd never have had advanced past 8-tracks. What they need to do now is instead of forcing highly destructive laws through Congress and other governing bodies is that they need to adapt their business model. The gaming industry has largely adapted to it with Steam and you'd be hard pressed to find people who don't like it.

By the way, if you read the entire 120 page "statement" you linked to, SOPA is referenced exactly once, and Czar Espinel's (shouldn't that be Czarina?) quote is nowhere to be found.

It's election season Bob. the only purpose in this kind of garbage is to stir anti-Obama sentiment.
