What Does The Head Coach Job Really Do?

Fire up your team only and give pep talks? Cause in Atlanta, Mike Smith can chew you out but his Speeches aren't really motivating. Btw it seems like the OC and DC are the true coaches, since they pick the schemes and plays during the game cause the previous 2-3 seasons I wished Mike Smith would call the plays instead of BVG and 'Mularky.

The HC doesn't actually coach. He's there to motivate the team. The HC just oversees everything that happens and casually give his insights and suggestions but at the end of the day it's up to the coordinators to actually do the coaching and game planing that determines a lot of what happens on the field. The HC makes the decisions on when to challenge calls or when to go for it on 4th down. I really think unless you have a HC that is actually running the offense or defense himself they end up getting way too much credit and way too much blame.

Think of it this way. The HC is basically like the CEO of a Fortune 500 company.
