the overall worth of the contract was never a problem with brees.

The problem is the money he wants in the first three years.

Peyton gets 18 million guaranteed in the first year. Brees wants 23 million.

You have numbers on peyton's new contract?

I was coming to start a similar thread about this topic. It will be very interesting to see how these negotiations play out between Brees and NO. I don't doubt that a deal will eventually get done; but if I am the agent for Brees, I'm going to NO's front office and telling them some things that they probably don't want to hear.

It'd probably go something along the lines of, "Manning just got a 5 year deal worth $95 mil. He's got all sorts of questions surrounding his health and his ability to play. We KNOW my guy can play with the best. Make this a 9 figure deal."

I personally have not been keeping up with how things have been playing out between Brees and NO, so I can't speak as to what exactly they're asking. I will tell you this though, I think the price for Brees probably went up just a smidgen.
