Guess we'll find out.http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/houston-texans/cap-hit/ Edited March 13, 2012 by JulioisCoolio
jesushchristo
I don't think Mario is in the Falcons discussion anymore.
1989Fan
they are obviously going to make a move somewhere. you dont move back those cap hits for the fun of it.It wouldnt surprise me if Mario is back in HOU. The did say hey were going to 'make him an offer he cant refuse'
Infinitepwnz
well there goes my last bit of hope. Seems like Houston will make a huge play to resign maro. My gut says they succeed.

1989Fan
the thing is, being this close to UFA begining in 3 hours do you think Mario would re-up his deal without shopping?
dmo_dlo
You know it makes so much sense for Texans to go after Manning. They'll be crazy to sign Mario who is a luxury for them and ignore Manning. Manning is a perfect fit for Houston. Knows all their divisional opponents perfectly and will immediately help them. More importantly Houston is perfect for Manning: excellent defense, great running game, good OL. If Manning goes to that team they are the team to beat in AFC or even NFL. JDaveG
I would love nothing more than for Mario Williams to re-sign with Houston. It would stop the rampant speculation on the Board and in the media, it would stop us from breaking the bank on 1 player and ignoring the single biggest problem on our team (o-line), and it would leave the "we just HAVE to get Mario" folks no reason to whine if the Falcons don't get him, since he'd be re-signing with his old club instead of some rival club that had an equal shot at him. JulioisCoolio
They could be making a play at one of the big name FA receivers though. We know they're in the market for another WR across from Andre.

1989Fan
Schaub is on the last year of his contract, so now would be he time to decide if he is your future. They could have Manning, with Yates learning behind him, and trade Schaub for good value (like #22 rom CLE)
FalconFanSince1970
Aren't they trying to re-sign their center?
pren226
They could be making a play at one of the big name FA receivers though. We know they're in the market for another WR across from Andre.imagine vincent jackson across from andre. they aren't going to resign mario, i think they are a seriously looking at manning behind the scenes though. what would they hope to gain by signing mario, maybe going from the number 2 defense to the number 1 next year? 14m a year for 1 bump in position??Tampa can throw off this whole free agency if they want but the texans are looking for wr or peyton if the stars align for them. dmo_dlo
Why, you think they are done with Schaub or something ? ..........Schaub is great QB but he's no Manning. He has ups and downs and he doesn't impose himself on teams as Manning does. Schaub is great but Houston with Manning screams championship. Mario on the other hand is nice but expensive luxury for them. Wise thing is to go after Manning if they have the room.
JulioisCoolio
Aren't they trying to re-sign their center?Yea. I don't see them letting him go after letting their RT go. OL is one of their biggest strengths.
1989Fan
Aren't they trying to re-sign their center?yeah, but you dont need 11M to do that. Cutting Leinart alone would cover that cap hit.It has to be Manning or Mario IMO to cut your pro bowl caliber RT over a 5M cap hit.
dirtybirdz10984
Houston picking up Manning doesnt really make sense. Schaub is above average and to be honest thats all they need. with the way they run the ball and play defense Schaub is more than enough. imagine how dangerous they would have been in the playoffs if they didnt have a rookie in at QB.save the money and resign Mario. and player they dont need but at least teams in the NFC like tampa cant make a run at him
Ryanless Falcons
Aren't they trying to re-sign their center? They need to resign their center. He was the best in the game last year. He will want at least 7-8 million a year.
blackredfellow
Aren't they trying to re-sign their center?Yes.This has nothing to do with Mario.WR Andre Johnson restructured his contract, according to Jason LaCanfora of NFL Network. The move gives the team approximately $5.2 million in cap space. Johnson's $7.5 million salary in 2012 is now guaranteed, which allows gives the team more room to work with in attempting to re-sign Pro Bowl C Chris Myers, OG Mike Brisiel and TE Joel Dreessen.http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/rapid-reports/post/17755140

dmo_dlo
I bet Manning will give them all the discount he can to a) play with such great defense and stay in the same division with the Colts as a bit of payback.
