Looks like Panthers did something to get out of the hole. What is up with the Falcons? I thought they were around 20M under the cap. Bucs are going to be big players in FA.

thats what we have been hearing all offseason....the Falcons had a lot of cash and were going to be major players in FA

Not sure how they hope to sign Super Mario with 7M in cap space. They have to worry about their draft picks even without a 1st round pick, it should still hit em 2M to 3M. You also know that they'll want to get a few mid level players to add depth to a position or two.

Just because they have a ton of cap room doesn't mean squat! I'll be amazed (albeit pleasently so) if they sign a first tier free agent today or anytime in the coming weeks. Cheap bastages!

Have faith brother. Glazers know that it's a new era in Buccaneer football. After the Morris debacle, I expect them to open their wallets and spend big, not only to improve their team but to also garner more fan support. Which has been lacking over the course of the Morris era.

they are actually REQUIRED to spend big starting this year. Teams must be within a certain percentage of the cap if I remember correctly and it is something like 95%

It's called the franchise tag,

That is the biggest culprit.

Grimes charge right now is a shade over 10 mil.

Once we do what ever we do with him ( sign to long term deal or trade) his cap number goes down big time.

We also have resigned 3 guys as well as added 2 street FA's already.

yeah 95% is the number I believe it is.

That doesn't kick in until 2013 from what I understand. If so, you can be virtually guaranteed we'll spend at BEST half of the cap space we have available and that's being generous to these cheap s.o.b.'s!

Really? Well then if those stupid ******** don't sign any of the better young talent available in free agency they deserve to have attendace figures averaging about 20,000 per game!

Yup Really :)

I think they are going to make a splash.

And truthfully I hope they do.

this division is funnest when we have 3 teams constantly in the chase

Panthers will be a handful this year. Their defense was decimated by injuries last year

Ehh even when it was healthy the panthers D was only really so so.

It was at its best when Carolina just wore people down on offense and kept the defense fresh.

I think the panthers will play hard but in the need they have nothing in the middle, their linebackers get hurt if you sneeze on them and outside of Gamble they do not have any starting caliber corner.

they are quite capable of being at least an 8 win team which puts them in the mix depending on how breaks fall. it also means they are good enough to have a hand in deciding who wins the division

8 wins will keep you in the mix? That means we may be looking at a 9-7 division winner....I HOPE NOT!

8 wins does keep you in the mix if the last couple games are against division opponents. remember, that might mean losing the last couple games of the season

a team hovering around the .500 mark is at least in striking distance for a playoff spot for most of the year
