bill from accounting
All I'm sayin is this:Without Mario Williams i still trust nolan to get the job done.Without Carl Nicks or an o-lineman near his caliber, I don't trust the offense to get the job done.I'm confused, do people think, that without a signing for our pass protection that our o-line is just magically going to get better next year, when there is no proof that it could happen?Atleast on the defensive side we have SOME sort of hope(ray edwards will be fully healed, incredible new def. coordinator, bierman is there).People act like we don't have talent already on defense when, despite BVG's horrible scheme, we only allowed 6 games where our opponent scored over 30 in his FOUR seasons here.If we could do that well with bvg's system, I highly expect us to do even better with nolan, with or without mario williams. The offense has ALWAYS been the bigger problem, and i pray that TD makes the right decision, and finds us some protection for matty ice. TeamPlayer1
When we play playoff quality defenses, if you give Ryan just 1 more second, you will like what you see. O-line is key!
kane#7
+ 10000000000We need to make our weapons on offense better but we can't with our Oline.
Steel City Falcon
If Carl Nicks could play LT than I would favor him. I just can't see them paying a OG 10 million+ a year.

paulitik
Nobody has been screaming about fixing the OL more than I have, but if you think Mike Nolan can just shine the turd of a DL we have, on top of losing Abraham, you're kidding yourself. We can address the OL and try to sign Mario. Everyone needs to be quit being so absolute about everything. Sorry man, we have no game changers on this defense at all. It would be moronic to not at least find a way to get one of the best ones available.
CTann
Personally, I'd rather focus on the O-Line first. The weakest link of the offense is the O-Line. Get that fixed and then there's instantly more production from Matt, Roddy, Turner, Tony, Julio, Quizz, Snelling, and whoever else. Then again, same could be said about fixing the D-Line and instantly the entire defense is better.Spend the big bucks on necessary O-Linemen. Find cheaper options to improve the D-Line or other areas of the defense.Mincey or Langford? How about Manny Lawson for an extra linebacker if he wasn't too pricy? Guest Negatorris
Well we face Vick, Newton(x2), Brees(x2), Romo, Eli, Peyton(Maybe), Rivers, and Stafford so we BETTER generate some major pressure or we will get sliced up all year.

Protecting your qb is more importantI think Pat Hill can fix the OLine and Koetter can't be worse than Mularkey. Like it or not we will be playing quality offenses all season. More great offenses than great defenses. We will have to become the Saints if we wanted to win without a defense against the upcoming teams. We let Tavaris Jackson slice us up. Dirk needs more help from FA than nolan. Edited March 13, 2012 by bill from accounting
mastershake
Agree totally, Mularky handcuffed Ryan these last 2 years. Then you cant go deep if you dont give him some time to make an accurate throw. It was almost like " hey, that quick slant just went for 70 yards again, Lets not do that again, they will expect it now so lets go back to 10 yard outs again and hope that keeps working all the way down the field." Maybe if every time we got a 10 point lead we would stop running clock with predictable calls and leaving our d on the field the whole second half, they would be OK. Sure our pass rush from the D line leaves something to be desired, but some of the best Ds in the league create pressure from something more than rushing 4 and dropping back into a vanilla cover two and hoping they get there. jeffmullins
Sign Carl Nicks! The Saints look like they won't even try to keep him around so sign him. The guys a **** stud!
Firstiary
We've got to add a playmaker on defense. I agree that protecting your QB is massively important, but I don't think our O-Line is so bad that we have to sign a top stud for the OL while letting our defense get destroyed every Sunday. It would be moronic to not at least find a way to get one of the best ones available. This has been my view this off season I looked at both sides of the ball and when you think in big games letting a division opponent come in and hang 46 on you and let GB come into your building and hang 48 on you in a play-off game man I really think pass rush is a big issue and over the last 4 years its so up n down.As you said Paulitik last time i looked magic tricks were'nt in Mike Nolan's CV and his last name was'nt Houdini we need more talent up front pure and simple. There are more options o-line wise we can get guys in the draft to cover RG if they have'nt already with the Manuwai signing and with Jackson and Johnson there to compete I think we won't go near a RG in FA.I will agree though LT is a real need Svitek is serviceable but I think we need to invest there to be safe. dirtybirdz10984
so we plan to just out score teams?? its been good for the Colts up until now right? yea yea they won a SB but they have Manning, Ryan is good and all but hes not Manning. We NEEED defense as much as we need offense. so lets forget these high dollar guys and go for good quality players that come at decent prices
