Wokezone
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d8278bb5f/article/saints-carl-nicks-determined-to-be-nfls-richest-guard?module=HP11_headline_stackWe all know the story of the star player who, citing comfort and affinity for the franchise, takes a nice discount to stay in town. This is not one of those stories.New Orleans Saints guard Carl Nicks has spent the offseason making it clear he's looking to cash in during free agency. This is his right, and it's kind of hard to fault him for it. He reiterated his goal again on Monday.“I plan to be the highest-paid guard in the NFL," Hicks told WWL in New Orleans (via SportsRadioInterviews.com). "You can take that whatever kinda way, but that’s my goal, so ... more than Logan Mankins got I guess.”Mankins signed a six-year, $51 million contract with Patriots last August. Hicks' desire effectively cuts his ties with the Saints, who are short on cap space and already used their franchise tag on quarterback Drew Brees.Nicks, 26, is a two-time All-Pro considered among the best at his position. A fifth-round pick in 2008, he is "absolutely prepared" to move on from the Saints, who have had little contact with Nicks' representation since the season ended.“I don’t wanna sound cocky or anything, but I busted my butt for four years, I made a couple Pro Bowls," he said. "For my first three years, I was the lowest paid guard of all the starting guards in the NFL. And I never complained, I never held out, I came in early to sign my tender when no one else was doing that."I’ve been dedicated to the team and I’ve proven my stats speak for itself," he said. "I just feel like I should get paid what I deserve.”There's bound to be a nice market for Nicks, a proven performer squarely in the prime of his career. Nicks will make your team better no doubt ... but he's not for the fiscal faint of heart. He is looking to make huge money, no way do we go this route especially after signing Manuwai

With him wanting to be the top guard I think he just priced himself out of a Falcons uniform. I hope Grubbs is looking for a more reasonable price. Wokezone
The part where he said he wants to be the highest paid G in the league, that would be a dumb move, if we had to have a G from FA id rathr take Grubbs, that the guy who wont settle for anything less that the Most money in all of NFL. TD picks smart
Butudontseeme™
I don't understand why these goes are so concerned with being the absolute highest paid at their position. Just an ego thing I guess
Total Package
It is common knowledge that he will be highest paid guard, because he is worth it and someone will pay it. Why is him stating the obvious anything negative on his part? Edited March 13, 2012 by MeAndJulio
Diesel_Bird
Makes sense to me, best guard in NFL wants to be highest paid guard in NFL. Not a brainbuster. Probably let the idea of signing Nicks go...
Guest Negatorris
Somebody will pay him, but it better not be us...
TeamPlayer1
We need an upgrade at LT and I don't care who it is as long as it is a true upgrade. I'm definitely a defensive oriented guy but that position is a weakness. Edited March 13, 2012 by TeamPlayer1
kane#7
Wait he wants to be the highest paid G in the league because he is the best gaurd in the league and our MB doesn't want to do that.Yet Mario in all likelyness will become the highest paid DE in the league (with the amount of teams rumored chasing him his price is going to rise, look at what happened last year when it was just us and the Panters for Charles Johnson) and he isn't the best DE in the league yet everyone wants him? cnasty
I didn't see the part where TD said we weren't going after him. Where's that at?When he said that he wanted to be the highest paid guard in the NFL, and also when we didn't have the cap room to afford a signing like that. Wokezone
Because RG is not our most pressing Need, and I wouldnt put him higher than Grubbs or evans and grubbs is a FALTDEare much higher on priority
Falkonator
He screams Albert haynesworth 2.0 to me, get paid and his production will go down. he tlks bout bein the bwst and not paid like it etc... What's to say ge get paid and he stop carrying? I would prefer Grubbs joining the ATL.
Wokezone
yeah i think if we were going to go after a RG it would be grubbs over nicks.

West Sider
I don't wants Nicks. Not at the price anyway. I still have high hopes for Johnson and VM could make things intresting. We have viable options at RG but what about LT? I think Baker has lost all confidence (and his back is a big concern) and Svitek, though filling in nicely for Baker, is not the long term answer. We need someone that will give Ryan piece of mind, and more importantly, TIME!I strongly believe we will make a big play for Williams. Next up should be LT followed by Center, unless Dimi and Co. firmly believe that Hawley is ready. There's no way we can allow Abe to walk and not fill his shoes with someone as good or better. I - we - should not be satisfied with a 2nd tier option. We already signed that guy last year in Edwards.
FalconsSD2
unless he became an all pro LT for us the cap hit would hurt, good luck not being a saint big guy!!
