Is the whole 10.6 against the cap when he signs? Just curious.

Unless they sign him to a long term deal. He can put a lot of pressure on the team to get it done simply by signing the tender. It also negates their ability to pull that tender back.

50/50 shot ..

REASONS WHY HE SIGNS TENDER

- like you said he will make 10 mil

- all guaranteed

- if he performs and ups his value next year in free agency

Reasons why he doesnt sign tender

-wants long term deal in case of injury

- could be leaving 20 mil on table with one

- he is in no rush ..he has the leverage now Falcons up against cap ..He can wait to his best deal and whats best for him and his family

I figured they tagged him to keep him from seeing offers from other teams while they see what happens in FA with whomever they are targeting.

Good post

Grimes wants a contract, not just some money. Like swift said, the contract gets him twice the money the tender will. Yes, he can try and up his stock for next FA but who is going to sign a 30 year old corner to a real contract. He has to sign it now. He will wait to see what guys like Finnegan and Carr get and go from there. No point in being the first to sign when you have all the time in the world.

Plus, if you were a corner and TD told you they were going to go after Williams hard so hang tight, why would you sign your tender? It would just screw everything up, especially when the guy is going to help you out.

flip side to that is Grimes now knows he has been tendered and if he doesnt get a OUTSTANDING DEAL he wont sign a new long term contract and one he wants and if we do go after Mario he can screw the plan up and sign the tender..he has the tender as a fall back option ..

Grimes wants a long term deal..any NFL player wants security ...but now he has Falcons held hostage

but same can be said about Falcons holding him hostage

but hard to say that for anyone making 10.5 million tho

Apparently there are reasons he won't since his agent has already said so

His agents comment was "we are not planning to sign the tender at this time". Not exactly a hard statement, especially since tomorrow is the first day he could sign it anyway.
