jgator21
He doesnt do his own research and this proves it more than anything. This number was only reported by one outlet yesterday and we all saw it. Now this clown comes out with this today. He obviously thinks the fanbase isnt smart enough to realize how weak his reporting is.

Creative
This isn't true. The 21m number was with Grimes 10m incorporated. Since then, DeCoud, Biermann, Snelling, Manauwi (sp lol) and Tatupu have not combined for 16m. No way.

schwarzenegger321
We are 5.7 under because we have to honor the tender to grimes. If he sits out then yes we will have an extra 10 million, but if he signs, even if it is a day before the first game we have to honor it.Whomever thought that Grimes contract doesnt count against the cap really needs to reconsider what they were thinking. Yes, we could end up giving Grimes a long term deal that is back end loaded and there are ways to come up with more cap money, but as of right now we have 5.7 million dollars in cap space. End of story
dmo_dlo
The number Florio reported does not include transactions after Friday. So it won't include Dunta's restructure and the two signings. If the cumber is correct, which I have no reason to suspect, our actual cap room is even smaller than that.
theProf
According to Spotrac, which is usually one of the most accurate sources, Atlanta has already used $111.2m against the 2012 cap from 42 signed players, which would leave $8.4m remaining ($120.6m - $111.2m). This $111.2m number does include Grimes at $10.4m and Dunta's restructuring, but does not yet include Totubu and Manuwei. I can easily see how Totubu and Manuwei could together count another $2.7m against the 2012 cap. Therefore, $8.4m Spotrac's remainding amount - $2.7m = $5.7m, which equals the number that Ledbetter is reporting.According to Spotrac's numbers, Baker is scheduled to count $4.2m and Ovie is schedulede to count $3.8m against the 2012 cap. I can easily see both of these players being cut to free up some more cap space. http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/atlanta-falcons/cap-hit/
jfalconsp
Are we sure this number was debunked?? We were at 100.4 million and the cap is 120.6 mil, leaving us 20.2 to work with and they were counting the Grimes tender. So 20.2- Biermann (2.13) - Snelling (1.06)- Decoud (2) + Dunta (1.7) - Grimes (10.6) = 5.48 and that's not including Tatupu or Manuwai. Seems right to me....

Creative
Then how the **** are we going to sign Mario...I'm 99% sure we were at 30m and then took out 10m for Grimes already.
KRUNKuno
I'm gonna re-post my reasoning as to how much we have From how I understand it:cap is set at $120.6mil....we have 3 $500,000 exceptions we can use this year.....$1.5mil......we restructured Dunta's contract to get back about 2 milso we essentially had $124mil to work with.....we were at about $96mil to begin with which means we had about $28mil to begin this offseason. We'll probably cut both Baker and Mughelli to give us an extra $5mil which would give us $33mil. We may restructure a few more contracts and pay Matt Ryan some of his contract money up front. Eli Manning did a similar deal that gave the Giants an extra $7 mil to work with. I'll use that same figure and estimate that TD is using a $40mil (give or take) budget this offseason. We have made VERY good deals with the players we have signed. I'm even satisfied with bringing Thomas Decoud back since we get him for pennies. This is a guy I had pitch forks and torches ready to escort out of Atlanta. Unless I have concrete evidence of how these contracts breakdown all I can do is estimate (rounding up):Kroy Biermann...3 mil Thomas Decoud...2 mil Lofa Tatupu...2 mil Vince Manuawi...2 mil Jason Snelling...1 milThis totals to $10mil. The kicker is Brent Grimes. Right now he's counting 10 mil against the cap. I suspect TD will try to work out a deal so that he'll get $8mil a year. So simple math says 40-18=$22mil left to work with. Because I'm doing a ton of rounding and estimating I'll shed off 2 mil for the skeptics and say we have about $20 mil to try to lure in free agents. Keep in mind we need at least $3mil to sign draft picks. So $17mil is what I'd say TD is mentally working with. We could go balls in at Mario Williams for about $14-15 mil. If not we still have tons of cap room to work with to sign other free agents.

dmo_dlo
We will need about 4-6 million in cap space to sign a backup QB, a WR and maybe a veteran CB. I think after Grimes situation is all done and all ways for freeing up cap space are exhausted (cutting the obvious duo: Baker and Ovie + restructuring Matt) we will have around 8-15 for shopping. We could go after Mario but I really doubt we ignore LT situation. There are some good LT options available this year.
