pzummo
54 hours to go until free agency starts at 4pm on Tuesday(March 13th). Of course, no players/teams/agents are supposed to know where the interest lies between player and team - but we all know that is not the real world.Right now, the Falcons know if Mario is interested in them, and Mario's agent knows that the Falcons are interested and will be a strong player for his services - of course agent/player want as many bidders as possible. If Falcons did not feel good about their chances to land Mario - they would have most likely approached this offseason differently. Regardless, Lofton was not going to be a Falcon - whether Falcons get Mario or not - the O-Line and D-Line needs to be remade. The big loophole in the entire process is that players can talk to other players. Players court other players all the time prior to FA. It's common knowledge that some players use the Pro Bowl to try to get pending FA's. In other words, Mario can talk to Dunta and likely has, especially considering the fact that Dunta restructured. The other thing is that since contracts are public, players would not have any issue discussing money with each other. Dunta could easily ask Mario what it would take for him to come to Atlanta, Dunta feeds that back to the FO, the FO starts working on an offer, and Dunta feeds that back to Mario. The rules only dictate that the FO can't talk to the player or the agent prior to FA. Players do not have those restrictions and they try to pull their friends to their teams all the time. Players talk and recruit.

SoCalFalconFan
Lofton is a good LB, but wants to be paid like a top LB, which he isn't. If they are going to overpay, I'd rather it be a year or two for Abe. I think he'd have more impact over Sid/Biermann/Edwards, than Lofton would have over Tatupu and Dent.Agreed. I keep imagining how sick the DL would be with Super Mario and Abe on it together. Good grief. Platoon Edwards with Abe in the 4-3 and swap in Bierman and Sidbury in 3-4 sets. Talk about having depth. It's unrealistic, but it would be sick, that's all I'm saying.
