Steel City Falcon
I want to be the first to say that if this means the end of Curtis Lofton in the Falcons uniform(most likely is) he will be missed. I've been a huge 50 supporter since Goodell called his name back in 2008. If Lofa is healthy this could be a huge signing. Hopefully this year off has helped him recover and he's ready to go. Reports are he looked really good in the workouts he had for the Falcons. But anyway when Lofa was healthy he was excellent as both a run defender and dropping back in pass coverage. He was a leader on the Seahawks defense and was voted to 3 Probowls in 5 years with the Hawks and was named an All Pro in 2007. I'm not saying he's that guy any more, because obviously players wear down with age. But if he can be somewhat close the TD could have found a gem. Most of the veterans that he has brought in over the past years have panned out. Hayden, Foxxworth, Sanders, and Peterson. I'm not talking about the high profile guys like Robinson and Edwards, although I think under a compitent DC they will improve.http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/09000d5d804bb952/Week-13-Lofa-Tatupu-highlights
blackredfellow
You will be missed Curtis. I will be especially sad seeing him in pewterpuke. If Lofa can be a decent starter long enough to find a long term starter, I guess I have to trust the FO.
g-dawg
I will miss Lofton as well - but if Falcons get Mario Williams and improve the O-Line, then not overpaying Lofton $8million per year will have been worth it.Ceeya Curtis - thanks for your service. He was underrated in my opinion. But if Tatupu truely is healthy there shouldn't really be a drop off. Esoecially if they can generate a pass rush. Are you already on the way(him leaving seems like a foregone conclussion)? I never thought Brooking could be the a$$ he was, I wonder if Lofton would have that same grudge if he goes to TB? vel
I have always liked Lofa. I think he will have a chip on his shoulder coming back. He is a good player. This also let's Spoon be the leader of the defense, something Lofton wasn't. That's what I am happy about most
Dharma Initiative
I felt Lofton was overvalued. He doesn't do anything well but tackle. I also don't think he was much of a leader but the coaches tried to force him to be
Thelonious Mingus
Lofa was a beast in 2007. He sucks now.
SwampyMux12
Don't get me wrong, Lofton has been a great player for us... but at a position (especially with the new defensive scheme) that was the most replaceable with a mid level FA (Tatupu) or player already on the roster (Dent). It's becoming increasingly obvious that the FO views Curtis as a 2 down run stuffer who can cover in a pinch, not a true 3 down LB. If one of those two dudes can come in and plug for 2 downs then money will be more wisely spent on the OL and DL.If Tatupu is healthy he may be one of those sneaky good pickups... I like that at least if Lofton leaves we have a plan... not relying on an undersized 4th rd Draft pick who is related to a stud OLB to handle the mlb, like a certain "Dream Team" that shall go unnamed. Which pretty much killed their defense btw...

muskokas finest ©
Lofton's presence in the locker room will be missed. He was never projected to be a great pass coverage backer, but he sure delivered the goods otherwise. The team will miss him, but good teams find themselves making hard business decisions. niels petersen
Sure he can be that MLB.. The question is, if he will.. I see no indications he will return to previous form, but I guess his workout with us really convinced our coaches. Hope they are right. No doubt Lofa was a great player back then, but a long time has passed since then.. Injuries and time away from football. To me these are serious question marks that will have a huge outcome on his game and efficiency as a LB. I feel like the times we have taken a chance on a player with serious injury questions, they have usually gone down with an injury once again - eg. Hayden, Jerry, Edwards. I hope Lofa won't go through the same thing, but with our luck that may very well happen. Maybe we should bring in another LB to back him up or just compliment him - Crowder is still available and knows Nolans system.. Would be a good signing along Lofa IMO.I'll cheer for Lofa and hope he will become the player he once was, but I'll also miss Lofton very much.. He was the core of our defense.. Now Spoon must step up, and Lofa must stay healthy!I definitely think this is indicative of us going hard after Mario Williams.. I will take a MW all day because he's a game changer. I respect 50 but he just isn't that type of player.

I wish him well when he's gone and root like h3ll against him when we play him. I could care less if he has a grudge against us. Padawan Knight
I like the Tatupu signing. He has family in the Atlanta area and I'm sure they're excited to have him "home". I used to work with his aunt.

primetime
PFF has given a higher grade to Curtis Lofton every year than Lofa Tatupu... Just sayin'.Mate noone is saying hes better than Lofton - hes just a fraction of the cost and for hopefully not a huge drop-off. Good signing - good teams dont overpay for average players and hopefully after some early struggles (ovie & dunta) we are starting to learn that. Steelers every year make playoffs and every year release those players who would break the bank
