falcon057
After reading friday chat we are going after up to 4 big Fa. Mcneil and a DT too?DAmm. Hang on the cap wiz is at work. Mr Blank was Mad.
Thiccolas Cage
No doubt. I am happy that the FO is contemplating being major players in FA. That will bode well for us. The Bucs may have to throw more money out there.
RHEC
If we land both Nicks and Mario, I would think I died somewhere and this was all a dream.
Thiccolas Cage
Could they just be restructuring to work Grimes to a longer contract and pick up MW?
paulitik
If we get McNeil, Nicks, Mario Williams, and a fatty DT before we even get to the draft, I will be a very happy camper. The draft will just be gravy. Add in the fact that the Saints punishment is due on my birthday, and that we could draft Orson Charles and Brandon Boykin,,.I might die of one of those 4 hour erections the Viagra commercials warn you about. falcon057
I'd give up Baker, Ovie, and Tunner for Nicks, McNeil and rookie RB wilson just saying! If we still needed room.
Falcons 'til Death
Maybe Williams and Grubbs, depending how they extend Ryan.
dmo_dlo
I think LT is a far more important need than G. Also, brining Nicks will not solve the question mark on RG situation.

I think we will probably sign a lt, langford would be a good pick up at DT he is young and can play base end in 3-4 and 3 tech in 4-3 very valuable

Pat Yasinskas (1:07 PM)Stay tuned on Atlanta's cap situation. I've got a little update on that. I'll write it and put it on blog as soon as we finish the chat. Not huge, but interesting. paulitik
LOL man math is not you guys strong point. I don't think anyone thinks we'll get all of those guys, but it would be sweet if it were possible. That's pretty much fixing all of our holes in one FA period.I do think that we could get Williams and one big OL acquisition like McNeil or Nicks, but not all 3. JulioisCoolio
Why is this board so enamored with Nicks? Yes, OG is a position of need, but we just signed Blalock to a 6 yr/38 mil contract last year. His cap hit this year is 4.8 mil. Next year it jumps to 6.8 mil. Do you really want to tie up at least 15 mil a year in the OG position? This draft is loaded with OG talent that would come @ a less than a mil a year cap hit.You don't blow your wad in non premium positions. Use that money on DE. pzummo
Jonathan (Atlanta)Pat most likely the falcons are going to make a big splash because of not having a first rd pick. what are the odds "super mario" takes his talents to ATL? If we have enough cap room to make it happen, then we should. Pat YasinskasI've got an item up on blog right now saying Falcons should go hard after Mario. I think he might be the "missing link" that Ray Edwards said he'd be last year. Carter (Atlanta)Excluding Super Mario, who else will the Falcons pursue? Pat YasinskasLove to see them get a left tackle. Maybe Marcus McNeil? Don (Atlanta)Do the Falcons have enough cap room to win a bidding war for Mario, Nicks and sign a decent OT in FA? Pat YasinskasStay tuned on Atlanta's cap situation. I've got a little update on that. I'll write it and put it on blog as soon as we finish the chat. Not huge, but interesting. Kyle (Toronto)What is the likelihood that Atlanta will cut Sam Baker to make more cap space? Pat YasinskasPretty high, is my guess. CP (Brooklyn, NY)Afternoon Pat. Look, I understand the falcons haven't had much pass rush outside of Abe, but don't you think some of the blame should go to VanGorder (and Smith for that matter) and his scheme and lack of ability to develop pass rushers? Any chance the market for Abe isn't great and he comes back to ATL for a decent cost? Pat YasinskasGood point. I think some blame probably should go to coaching. I'd say there's an outside chance Abe could come back if he drops is price a good bit and they haven't made a major move in the meantime. Frank (Snellville, GA)Which direction do you think the Falcons take with their 1st pick in the draft this year (in rd 2)? (I forget, are most FA signings done before the draft?) Pat YasinskasYeah, most FA signings are done before draft, so that will narrow their needs down for the draft. MeAndJulio (Thailand)Any word on Harry Douglas...how committed are the Falcons to bringing him back? Pat YasinskasThink they'd like to keep him, but only if it's at a reasonable rate. Rich (Albany, NY)Pat, what are your thoughts on the contract the Falcons gave Thomas Decoud, he's been a viable player for that defense however it seems they gave alot of money to a player they're still hoping will develop further. Pat YasinskasIf you look at way contract is structured (item is on blog), they obviously believe he can develop into something. Salary really shoots up as contract goes along. If he doesn't develop, then he probably never gets that money. Brock (Aspen, CO)Todd McClure retiring or coming back for the veteran minimum? Pat YasinskasSuspect we'll be hearing for sure in next 72 hours or so. But my guess is he comes back. MeAndJulio (Thailand)Will Ovie Mughelli be coming back to the Falcons or will he be cut? Pat YasinskasHe's got a pretty high cap figure and his coming off an injury. He's not young anymore. He could be cap casualty, especially if they're clearing money to go after Mario. Leaker (Atlanta)You stated that Atlanta worked out Tatupu, what happened to Channing Crowder from Miami and his interest? Pat YasinskasWould think that remains a possibility. Am guessing they wanted to get a look at Tatupu and see where he's at after sitting out a season. Vinnie (ATL)Why is Lofton on his way out of Atlanta? Is his asking price too high? I think Lofton is a good player and great locker room guy. I would hate to see him go. Pat YasinskasI feel the same way. But it sounds like Nolan may view him as a two-down player and I think Curtis wants to be an every-down guy. Chops (Atlanta)Would Dan Connor not be a better fit in Atlanta than Lofton?. Pat YasinskasConnor's not exactly great in pass coverage either. But, if you want a two-down MLB, then Connor's price is probably a good bit cheaper than Lofton's. scott (maine)Can the falcons sign Lofa Tatupu before free agency Pat YasinskasYes, they can because free agency rules don't apply to him because he was out of the league last year. santiago (antartica)Pat, do you think the Falcons will make 2 big moves in free agency, since they do not have a first round investment? Pat YasinskasAt least two. I'm thinking pass rusher and left tackle and possibly one or two others. Brock (Aspen, CO)When would Marcus McNeil be cut from the Chargers? Soon enough for the Falcons to grab him or after the draft? Pat YasinskasAll indications are that will be coming in the next few days. Michael (SC)Did the Falcons overpay Bierman? Pat YasinskasNot really. I'll have details on his contract soon. They didn't pay him real starter money. They paid him good money for a rotation guy. scott (maine)Lofa Tatupu better than Curtis Lofton? Pat YasinskasNo, but if they're going to make Lofton a two-down guy, then Tatupu can come in a lot cheaper and do close to what Lofton would do. Brock (Aspen, CO)Baker and Mugheili get cut...but who else? Any big surprises? Pat YasinskasThose are probably the two big ones. But I'll have some interesting cap news on the Falcons on the blog shortly. In fact, let me go and write it. Should be up in 20 to 30 minutes. Thanks to all for taking part in the chat. pzummo
Just FYI for the math critics, Pat Y did say he thinks the Falcons will make at least 2 big moves, with a possibility of 1 or 2 others. He says pass rusher and LT. It's all speculation though. I posted the entire chat as it relates to the Falcons. He does field questions regarding all of the NFC South, so here's the link if you wanted to read about Carolina not being able to afford anyone of significance, the Bucs being able to afford everyone of significance, and the Saints bountygate.http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/chat/_/id/42868/nfl-with-pat-yasinskas

If one of them is Mario Williams, the others will likely be role player type signings.

We could have upwards of 30 mil in cap space if this happens, maybe even a little more.Williams would only account for maybe 1/3 of that at the most. They can sign two or even 3 major players if they want to. I'm not sure they will but LT and DE would make perfect sense. I also expect them to come to terms with grimes eventually which would lower his number.
IceFalcon
Who cares. Mario is worth it. GET HIM !We could have had Julius Peppers, and Charles Johnson. Admittedly though, it also does not include, the new 2012 cap numbers, possible cuts, and possible restructures after Robinson's. For now, I say we wait until some of these details start coming to light. Then we can a much better perspective.
